Job summary

Baptist Housing is seeking a Junior Accountant in Surrey, British Columbia, to support Senior Accountants and the Divisional Controller. The role focuses on accurate financial record-keeping, bank reconciliations, and rent collections, with involvement in month-end and year-end closings.

The position requires a strong attention to detail, advanced Excel skills, and collaboration with team members, leadership, and external partners. A values-driven, servant-leadership culture is emphasized.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with coursework in accounting or bookkeeping required.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is an asset
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience required.
• Experience in non-profit accounting is preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post standard month-end journal entries.
• Balance operating bank accounts twice per week.
• Record deposits and adjusting entries in bank and general ledger.
• Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliations.
• Process monthly electronic rent collections and maintain rent revenue records.
• Reconcile rent revenue from residents and third-party subsidy providers.
• Record intersociety and interbank transfers.
• Provide support and respond to inquiries from team members.
• Collaborate with leadership to optimize financial processes and outcomes.
• Contribute to a positive and engaging work environment.
• Ensure accuracy in financial transactions to prevent misappropriation or financial loss.
• Maintain compliance with contracts, privacy legislation, and internal controls.
• Participate in audits and financial reporting to support regulatory requirements.
• Stay updated on financial programs and systems used in the role.
• Collaborate with the Divisional Controller on workflow and deadlines.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and leadership
