The Junior Accountant, under the direction of the Financial Controller, will provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks. Will be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail.
Job Duties
- Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
- Update accounts receivable and issue invoices
- Process and enter invoices for payment, match invoices with purchase orders, and check for accuracy
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and vendors
- Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
- Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all activities
- Ensure that all month-end financial duties and resulting financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner
- Record all business transactions, process accruals and adjustments, reconcile accounts
- Prepare bank reconciliations
- Maintain year-end working papers and spreadsheets, and assist with preparation for any internal or external audits or independent reviews being conducted
- Collect, interpret, and report on financial data
- Prepare monthly submissions for accounting and monthly remittances
- Assist in month-end close of the General Ledger as it relates to COGS and Inventory accounting
- Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the monthly close, including the preparation of monthly journal entries
- Financial analytics including variance, work in process and expenses
- Monitor manufacturing costs and data, purchase price variances, production variances and inventory budgeting/reporting
- Work with the Operations department to establish and maintain standard costs
- Collects data from the ERP system and other sources to determine costs of business activities such as manufactured products and goods, labor and overheads
- Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and changes in standard costs
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related area or equivalent experience, CPA would be an asset, but not required
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience with cost accounting (Financial/Manufacturing Costing & Analysis), preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to analyze and present numerical data in tables, spreadsheets, and forms, Microsoft Office (Excel technical skills – Pivot tables, VLOOKUP,) experience
- Competent with multiple software applications such as Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, MISys, Epicor or other related ERP systems
- Demonstrated time management skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
- High level of integrity and excellent work ethic
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
