Job summary

Jamesway Incubator Company Inc. (JCMI) is seeking a Junior Software Engineer with PCB programming expertise to join our Cambridge, ON team.

You will design, code, and integrate embedded control systems for industrial equipment, collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and software groups to drive automation. You will develop C, C++, and C# for microcontrollers, optimize real-time firmware, and implement control algorithms such as PID.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related field with 2+ years of experience.
  • Or College Diploma in Engineering Technology with 5+ years of experience in controls/embedded.
  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation/manufacturing environments (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Develop C, C++, and C# code for microcontrollers and embedded systems.
  • Write and optimize firmware for real-time industrial control applications.
  • Configure and fine-tune control algorithms (e.g., PID).
  • Work with electrical engineers to design and validate PCB layouts for industrial systems.
  • Program and test microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators.
  • Develop interfaces for SCADA, PLCs, and HMIs to enable monitoring and control.
  • Implement industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN, Ethernet/IP, and PROFINET.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in PCB-controlled systems.
  • Conduct functional and performance testing to ensure reliability and compliance.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and field service teams.
  • Create detailed software design descriptions, test procedures, and system diagrams.
  • Maintain version control using Git or similar repository tools.
  • Ensure designs meet industry safety and regulatory standards.
  • Analyze system performance and propose enhancements for efficiency.
  • Research and recommend new technologies for PCB-based control applications.
  • Participate in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for testability (DFT) reviews.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Junior Software Engineer with expertise in PCB programming to join our team. The ideal candidate will design, program, and integrate embedded control systems for industrial equipment, ensuring high performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.   • Experience with microcontroller platforms such as ARM Cortex, AVR, PIC, or ESP32.
  • Understanding of PCB design and troubleshooting with tools like Altium Designer, KiCad, or Eagle.
  • Knowledge of control systems, PID controllers, and real-time control applications.
  • Familiarity with RTOS (Real-Time Operating Systems) and embedded system debugging.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols and SCADA/HMI integration.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for system modeling and analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
