Job summary

The Government of Saskatchewan seeks Journeyperson Mechanics to join the Weyburn Fleet Repair Shop. Under the Shop Supervisor, you will maintain, repair and modify trucks, heavy equipment, and light vehicles used in highway maintenance.

Successful applicants hold a Saskatchewan Journeyperson certificate in Heavy Duty Equipment, Truck and Transport, or Agricultural Machinery Technician, or are in the 4th year of an apprenticeship. A Class 3A license or ability to upgrade is required.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Certificate recognized by the Province of Saskatchewan in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic; Truck and Transport Mechanic; or Agricultural Machinery Technician.
• 4th year of apprenticeship in listed trades may be considered.
• Valid Class 3A Driver's license or ability to upgrade within probationary period.
• Knowledge of regulations/acts related to mechanical repair of heavy equipment.
• Clear, concise verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Conducts preventative maintenance and inspections on trucks and heavy equipment in shop or field.
• Diagnoses equipment problems and determines repair methods, costs and time.
• Repairs mechanical, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems by replacing or fabricating parts.
• Performs maintenance such as fluid/filter changes and brake/hose replacements.
• Develops or modifies equipment or systems as assigned.
• Enters and retrieves data on the computer.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Opportunity:

The Fleet Services Branch within the Ministry of Highways is currently seeking highly motivated Journeyperson Mechanics to work in the Weyburn Fleet Repair Shop. Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, you will maintain, repair, and modify all types of trucks, highway construction and maintenance equipment, light vehicles and various types of other equipment used in highway maintenance and construction.

Responsibilities

• Conducts preventative maintenance and inspections to all types of trucks, highway construction and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment with services performed in the shop and in the field.
• Diagnoses equipment problems using mechanical, electrical, and computerized test equipment and determines methods of repair and cost/time associated with the repairs.
• Repairs equipment including mechanical, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems by replacing, fabricating, or revising parts and components.
• Performs equipment maintenance such as fluid/filter changes, replaces brakes, exhaust systems, hydraulic hoses, etc.
• Develops/modifies new and existing equipment or systems as assigned.
• Enters and retrieves data on the computer.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

To qualify for this position, you will possess a valid Journeyperson Certificate recognized by the Province of Saskatchewan in one of the following trades: Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic; Truck and Transport Mechanic; or Agricultural Machinery Technician.

Candidates in their 4th year of apprenticeship in the trades listed above may also be considered. Successful applicants will either hold a valid class 3A Driver's license or have the ability to upgrade to one within the probationary period.
