Job summary

Compass Minerals Canada Corp. is hiring a Journeyperson Electrician at the Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant in Unity, SK. You will troubleshoot electrical and control systems, calibrate instrumentation, and support reliability improvements while following safety and regulatory requirements.

You should have a Saskatchewan Red Seal, 3–5 years of industrial experience, and strong PLC/VFD skills. A valid Class 5 license is required and a Monday–Friday schedule is typical.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician certification required in Saskatchewan.
• 3-5 years of construction or industrial experience.
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
• Experience working with VFDs and electronic soft-start systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in an industrial environment.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing operational requirements.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Identify and implement reliability improvements for electrical and automation equipment.
• Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation including flow meters and transmitters.
• Maintain and support plant's control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and process information systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, servo drives, and related control equipment.
• Modify and optimize PLC and HMI programs to support operations.
• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Work safely and comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Support plant shutdowns, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

We are currently hiring a Journeyperson Electrician to join the team at our Mechanical Evaporation Plant in Unity, SK.

Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2 hour drive from Saskatoon. How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.

• Identify and implement reliability improvements for electrical and automation equipment.

• Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, differential pressure transmitters, and LVDTs.

• Maintain and support the plant's control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and process information systems.

• Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, servo drives, and related control equipment.

• Modify and optimize PLC and HMI programs to support operational performance.

• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve issues.

• Work safely and comply with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

• Support plant shutdowns, preventative maintenance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Perform other related duties as required.

• Experience working with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and electronic soft-start systems.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in an industrial environment.

• Flexible and adaptable to changing operational requirements.

• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation.
