Job summary

Compass Minerals Canada Corp. in Unity, SK, is hiring a Journeyperson Electrician for our Mechanical Evaporation Plant. You will troubleshoot and maintain electrical, instrumentation, and control systems to ensure reliable operation and safety.

You will install, calibrate, and optimize PLC/HMI programs, support process information systems, and drive continuous improvements in a dynamic industrial environment. A Red Seal is required and a valid driver's license is essential.

Qualifications

• Red Seal journeyperson certification is required.
• 3–5 years of construction or industrial experience.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-based control systems.
• Experience working with VFDs and electronic soft-start systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in an industrial environment.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Identify and implement reliability improvements for electrical and automation equipment.
• Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation, including flow meters and pressure transmitters.
• Maintain and support the plant's control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and process information systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, servo drives, and related control equipment.
• Modify and optimize PLC and HMI programs to support operational performance.
• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose issues.
• Work safely and comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Support plant shutdowns, preventive maintenance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

We are currently hiring a Journeyperson Electrician to join the team at our Mechanical Evaporation Plant in Unity, SK.

Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2 hour drive from Saskatoon. How will you contribute to the team?

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Identify and implement reliability improvements for electrical and automation equipment.
• Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, differential pressure transmitters, and LVDTs.
• Maintain and support the plant's control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and process information systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, servo drives, and related control equipment.
• Modify and optimize PLC and HMI programs to support operational performance.
• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve issues.
• Work safely and comply with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Support plant shutdowns, preventative maintenance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as required.

What should you bring to the role?

• Saskatchewan Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician Certification
• 3 – 5 years of construction or industrial experience
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
• Experience working with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and electronic soft-start systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in an industrial environment.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing operational requirements.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation.
