Job summary

Compass Minerals Canada Corp. is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic for our Unity, Saskatchewan mechanical evaporation facility.

You will maintain and repair a heavy fleet used in salt production, drive the plant’s uptime, and work within a safety-conscious team. The role requires a Journeyperson certificate for Heavy Duty Mechanic or Heavy Duty Agriculture Mechanic, a valid driver’s license, and proficiency with MS Office; JD Edwards ERP experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Must be able to multi-task with a high sense of urgency.
• Proven ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty equipment.
• Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Experience with E1/JD Edwards ERP is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Use and maintain tools and equipment to perform general maintenance and inspections on the heavy fleet.
• Diagnose and repair engines and engine support systems for maximum uptime.
• Repair hydraulic, hydrostatic, and pneumatic systems for reliable performance.
• Diagnose and repair drive train systems to ensure consistent machine operation.
• Repair electrical systems and electronic vehicle management systems.
• Perform cleaning duties to maintain a safe, organized workspace.
• Follow safety procedures and work collaboratively with the maintenance team.

We are currently hiring a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join the team at our mechanical evaporation facility in Unity, Saskatchewan.

Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2-hour drive from Saskatoon. How will you contribute to the team?

• Use and maintain tools and equipment while performing general maintenance, inspections, and routine trade activities to keep our heavy fleet running strong.
• Diagnose and repair engines and engine support systems with speed and precision for maximum uptime.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic, hydrostatic, and pneumatic systems for smooth, powerful performance in tough conditions.
• Diagnose and repair drive train systems to deliver consistent machine performance on every job.
• Diagnose and repair steering, suspension, brake systems, wheels, and undercarriage to keep operators safe and equipment productive.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems and electronic vehicle management systems.
• Diagnose and repair environmental control systems plus structural components, accessories, and attachments.
• Perform required cleaning duties to maintain a safe, organized workspace.

What should you bring to the role?

• Journeyperson certificate for Heavy Duty Mechanic or Heavy Duty Agriculture Mechanic
• Valid Driver’s License
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Word
• Experience in E1/JD Edwards ERP is an asset.
• Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Must be able to work in hot temperatures and climb steps as required
• Ability to multi-task, have a high sense of urgency with regards to operational requirements and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

What is the work schedule?
