Job summary

Silent-Aire, a division of Johnson Controls, is hiring an Electrician to plan, install, test and maintain electrical systems in our Edmonton-area facilities. You will read blueprints, ensure code-compliant work, and mentor apprentices while leading safety programs.

The role requires Alberta journeyman certification and hands-on experience with power distribution, control panels, and electrical troubleshooting in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Alberta Journeyperson Electrician Certificate is required; Red Seal is an asset.
• Experience supervising, mentoring and supporting apprentices per apprenticeship standards.
• Proven experience installing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and specs to plan electrical installations, maintenance and repair work.
• Provide guidance and verification of apprentice work in line with Alberta regulations.
• Install, terminate and test conduit, cables and control devices per codes and standards.
• Construct and wire electrical control panels and systems, including rough-in wiring.
• Lead safety processes such as lockout/tagout and energized work assessments.

Roles And Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and specifications to plan and carry out electrical installation, maintenance and repair work.
• Provide technical guidance, oversight and verification of apprentice work in accordance with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) legislation.
• Install, terminate and test conduit systems, cables, electrical equipment, panels, sensors and control devices in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Construct and fabricate electrical control panels and systems, including rough-in and final wiring of control circuits.
• Install interlocking wiring and complete wiring inspection and checkout procedures to verify correct operation.
• Follow manufacturer specifications, vendor manuals and assembly and installation instructions.
• Lead and perform electrical isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO) and energized work assessments in accordance with company safety programs and regulatory requirements.
• Assess electrical hazards and ensure required permits, controls and safe work practices are implemented prior to performing work.
• Troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical power and control circuits, including motors and associated control devices.
• Ensure all electrical work meets applicable codes, standards, drawings and company quality requirements including NEC, NESC, NFPA, and UFC where applicable.
• Complete, update and maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, inspection reports and technical documentation.
• Monitor materials and parts usage and report shortages, defects or quality concerns.
• Assist with the development and execution of preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
• Recommend improvements or modifications to electrical systems, plans and specifications to enhance safety, reliability and operational efficiency.
• Ensure proper use, inspection, care and storage of tools, test instruments and assigned equipment.
• Train, direct and support junior employees and apprentices and inspect and certify work quality as required.
• Maintain current knowledge of electrical technologies, codes, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
• Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
• Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to accurately read, interpret and apply information from blueprints, schematics, diagrams, drawings, manuals and technical specifications.
• In‑depth working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable regulatory and safety standards.
• Ability to apply code requirements to electrical installations, system modifications and troubleshooting activities.
• Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical power distribution, control circuits and motor control systems.
• Proven ability to coach, mentor and provide constructive feedback to apprentices in accordance with AIT apprenticeship requirements.
• Ability to lead by example in safety, quality and professionalism.
• Working knowledge of quality assurance processes, inspection methods and compliance verification requirements.

Education And Work Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Alberta Journeyperson Electrician Certificate. Red Seal endorsement is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring and supporting the technical development of electrical apprentices in accordance with apprenticeship standards.
• Proven experience installing, assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting and repairing a variety of electrical machinery and equipment.
• Experience performing routine electrical maintenance operations is an asset.
• Experience supporting inspections, audits and regulatory compliance activities is an asset.

Working Conditions

• Required to work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperatures and other production‑related hazards.
• Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and excessive noise levels in the workplace.
• Must have the physical ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
• Must have the ability to stand for extended periods throughout each shift.
• Manual dexterity is required to effectively operate tools and equipment.
• Overtime may be available occasionally with work volume.
