Cabin Radio is hiring a reporter based in our Yellowknife newsroom for three months (June 1 to August 31, 2025) to provide summer cover.
Your reporting will be primarily written – for the Cabin Radio website and the Local Journalism Initiative, meaning your work will be distributed to the Canadian Press wire – with opportunities for broadcast journalism.
This position requires the confidence to quickly write clear, concise, and engaging copy and take on a wide range of fast-turnaround news reporting. There is also room to pursue some longer-form investigative journalism.
Your focus will be on the NWT's Dehcho region and the territory's attempts to lift itself out of a housing crisis, alongside civics reporting for many of the NWT's 33 communities.
You'll help to power a small newsroom that has built a reputation for robust, high-quality, and engaging journalism. Cabin Radio won the Canadian Association of Journalists' national Daily Excellence award in 2024, having been shortlisted for the same award a year earlier, and is again shortlisted in 2025's Online Media category.
