We are looking for a dynamic facilitator for our "Pathways to Purpose" Community Outreach Worker training program. This 12 week project is built around 3 four week segments that equips individuals with lived experience in addiction, homelessness, and / or Mental Health illness with the tools to become community outreach workers. The program includes classroom-based learning, hands-on workshops, certification courses and supervised field placements. We are seeking 2 individuals to join our Team as Facilitators / Coaches. These hybrid roles will combine facilitation and one-on-one Job Coaching, guiding participants through both the classroom and practical aspects of the program, while also providing a safety net to participants to assist with personal issues that may be impeding their progress.
- Facilitate daily workshops and training sessions using trauma-informed and adult education principles.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and to a caseload of participants.
- Track and report participant progress and attendance.
- Support participants in building soft skills, self-confidence, and employment readiness.
- Collaborate with the Job Developer and other community partners to coordinate guest speakers, site visits, and placements.
- Co-develop and deliver workshops based on personal or professional expertise.
- Offer make-up sessions or individual coaching during weekly drop-in times.
- Maintain professional boundaries while supporting participants with complex needs.
- Assist participants in developing a broad range of skills and knowledge to participate successfully in the current and future labour force.
- Train participants resume writing, cover letter, interview skills, online application processes, confidence building, self-development and other important skill sets to help them succeed.
- Assess employment needs and identify goals
- Build a collaborative relationship with the job seeker and develop a plan to address the needs and meet the goals.
- Work one-on-one and in group cohort settings.
- Coordinate & book training and / or tickets participants require to reach employment goals
- Report writing (internal and to the funder)
- Support Job developer, Facilitator and participants during their job search, work experience placement and follow-up phases
- Coordinate and communicate with other agencies and providers
- Reporting directly to Office Manager and Regional Manager
Desired Skills
It is important that these individuals will work together along with the Job Developer to meet program objectives and assist clients in reaching their expected outcomes.
- Lived experience with addiction, mental illness, and / or homelessness is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience facilitating employment or life skills programs.
- Knowledge of community-based outreach work and social service systems.
- Strong communication, organizational, and group facilitation skills.
- Training or experience in trauma-informed care and harm reduction preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills including conflict resolution
- Education or work experience related to working with individuals who have diverse needs and backgrounds.
- Preference to candidates with Career Development Practitioner training.
- Documentation and report writing skills
- Strong computer skills including ability to utilize databases and various technologies for communication and presentation purposes
- Must be knowledgeable with MS suite of applications including : Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams. Also a comfort level working with databases and data tracking systems.
- Good organizational skills & attention to detail
- Preference for applicants with own vehicle and Class 5 License
- Ability to pass a criminal record / vulnerable sector check.
This is a new program and specific aspects of the curriculum will still need to be developed. As such, the individuals for this project will also be required to assist in the continued development of the curriculum.
