Jobbeschreibung

Job (Calgary) – Documentary/Verbatim Theatre Creation Assistant – Independent Project

Posted by Col Cseke. This theatre season I have three documentary-theatre projects in development and am looking for a Calgary-based theatre artist to help me out.

Duties include:

  • Transcribing interview tapes
  • Research into project topics
  • Filling out FOIP requests
  • There is also an option to participate in two separate development/devising workshops in the spring.

Dates and Honorarium:
An honorarium of $1000.00 will be paid. The time frame is October through April, hours are very flexible and time commitment and workload will be determined between us.

Ideal Person:
A Calgary-based theatre artist with an interest in new work or documentary/verbatim theatre as well as theatre that explores contemporary social and political topics and issues. Someone who is dependable, able to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong typing skills are essential.

About myself:
I'm a Calgary based playwright, performer, documentary-theatre maker, podcaster, etc. I'm the Co-AD of Verb Theatre, the Artistic Director of Inside Out Theatre, and a member of the Downstage Creation Ensemble. I'm primarily focused on new work creation, often through interview-based processes, collective creation, or community collaboration. I've been lucky to premiere new works, either as a playwright or co-creator, at the High Performance Rodeo, ATP's playRites Festival, and the Calgary International Children's Festival over the last few years, and last fall my play Jim Forgetting was published by Scirrocco. I also try very hard to be a generous collaborator and get really excited finding new collaborators and I'd love to have a partner for these projects. Speaking of…

About the projects:

XL Temporary: Developed Independently
Brooks Alberta, population 13 000, is on a per capita basis one of the most ethnically diverse municipalities in Canada. This is due in large part to the presence of hundreds of Temporary Foreign Workers living there, mostly working at the countries largest meat packing plant. The project explores the lives and experiences of Temporary Foreign Workers in Brooks and their cultural impact on this small prairie town.

Time to… ummm (commissioned by Y Stage)
A teen verbatim show investigating the sometimes overscheduled, sometimes under-supervised lives of teenagers. Looking to discover what teens are doing with their time, and what they dream about doing instead.

The Dandelion Project (produced by Verb Theatre)
Exploring the quickly evolving and controversial landscape of Doctor Assisted Suicide through interviews with family members and friends of those who've ended their life, doctors, and advocates. The Dandelion Project premiered in the spring of 2013 and we are continuing development while the issue continues to shift and advance.
