Job summary

The University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream Assistant Professor in Jazz, with a start date of July 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate jazz courses, lead ensembles, supervise research and mentoring, and contribute to our thriving jazz program in St. George, Toronto. Salary range CAD 135,000–CAD 160,000 per annum.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Jazz Performance and/or Jazz Composition/Arranging by the time of appointment.
• Evidence of research excellence in jazz through performances, commissions, publications, or awards.
• Strong teaching credentials with a dossier and letters of reference.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate jazz courses, including one-on-one performance lessons and ensembles.
• Supervise and mentor jazz students at masters and doctoral levels.
• Establish an outstanding research program with creative professional activities.
