Job Description

Senior Software Engineer – Java @ BIDS Trading

Calgary, AB or New York City, NY

About the Role

BIDS Trading is an institutional network and broker/dealer that provides software to help asset managers trade large blocks of liquidity. We operate two of the world’s largest equity block trading systems, in the U.S. and Europe. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and implement key components of our trading systems, collaborating with technologists in Calgary and New York to improve our platform.

Responsibilities

1. Write and re-engineer server-side Java services to add and improve functionality.
2. Implement test harnesses and automation to enhance test coverage.
3. Continuously challenge yourself and the team for ongoing improvement.
4. Engage in production troubleshooting and participate in on-call support rotations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Java software engineering, including designing, implementing, and refactoring complex systems.
• Proficiency in SQL, Linux, and Bash scripting.
• Strong problem-solving skills for both architectural and technical issues.
• Understanding of design trade-offs related to security, performance, and maintainability.
• Experience with automated testing tools like Junit and Jmh.
• Ability to use debuggers and profilers effectively.
• Experience with source control systems such as Git within CI environments.
• Excellent analytical, detail-oriented, and collaborative skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with trading systems development.
• Knowledge of secure coding, penetration testing, and best practices.
• Familiarity with Docker and containerization.
• Experience with AWS provisioning and services.
