Job summary

Mercor seeks a meticulous native Japanese speaker for document annotation tasks. You will open and validate pages in Japanese, bound and classify every region, and faithfully transcribe text with exact character accuracy.

You will also capture page metadata and ensure proper reading order, including vertical text and multi-column layouts. Collaborative review by a second expert is required, and you will flag unreadable content or unsuitable pages upfront to maintain quality across hundreds of

Qualifications

• Native Japanese speaker with full command of kanji, hiragana and katakana, including furigana.
• Experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, or editorial work is preferred.
• Character-level accuracy is essential; exact reproduction of source text is required.

Responsibilities

• Open and check a task: ensure page is in Japanese, legible, and contains content without personal details.
• Annotate structure: bound every meaningful region and assign component type and reading order.
• Record relationships: link regions to the corresponding figures or tables via parent IDs.
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce all text exactly as it appears in Japanese.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work: second expert reviews each task end-to-end.
