Job summary

Wellington County is seeking a student to support IT Helpdesk operations, reporting to the IT Support Supervisor. The role focuses on installation, maintenance and security of desktop hardware and software across County locations, with a 35-hour work week onsite.

The position runs from early January to the end of April, Monday to Friday, with a flexible schedule as needed. Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in a related program and have experience in technology support and Windows

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in University or College in a full time capacity, preferably in a Computer Technology Support / Networking Support programme.
  • Experience in Technology Support.
  • Experience with current Windows Operating Systems.
  • Working knowledge of configuring hardware and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office products.
  • A valid driver's licence (minimum G2 Class) and a satisfactory driver's abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and troubleshoot hardware and software problems at all locations.
  • Escalate difficult problems to Level III support.
  • Participate as a team member in desktop update projects.
  • Keep all desktop software current with updates and patches.
  • Ensure computers run at full capacity.
  • Recommend desktop hardware upgrades when appropriate.
  • Maintain desktop hardware and software usage lists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BASIC FUNCTION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in University or College in a full time capacity, preferably in a Computer Technology Support / Networking Support programme.
  • Experience in Technology Support.
  • Experience with current Windows Operating Systems.

  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office products.

Pay Range:$28.88 - $37.13 (2026 Student Compensation Grid)
Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.
Vacation: Paid out on each pay at the rate of six percent.
Parking: Provided; taxable benefit provisions apply.
Mileage: If applicable, as per CRA allowance.
