We are home to a diverse group of collegial investigation clerks and lawyers who possess a depth and breadth of expertise. We promote a culture of growth, innovation and excellence.

Mortimer Khoraych is seeking a full-time Investigations Law Clerk to support our growing investigations practice.

As an Investigations Law Clerk, you will work closely with our team of investigation lawyers on workplace, institutional, and regulatory investigations involving complex and sensitive matters. These include complaints related to abuse of authority, conflict of interest, professional misconduct, discrimination, racism (including Anti-Black/Anti-Indigenous racism and micro-aggressions), harassment (including human rights-based and sexual harassment), bullying, retaliation/reprisal, and other forms of misconduct.

You will engage with interesting, important, and at times complex and high-stakes files. You will play a key role in facilitating the investigation process from start to finish, including in the intake, evidence review, and report drafting stages.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and highly organized individual with excellent writing skills.

  • Prepare investigation plans, correspondence, and draft documents.
  • Prepare written summaries of oral, documentary, electronic and other evidence.
  • Conduct legal and other research under the direction of the Investigations Lawyer.
  • Organize exhibits and appendices for investigation reports.
  • Correspondence with clients, investigation participants and counsel.
  • Assist with quality assurance, proofreading, and document formatting of final investigation reports and related materials.
  • Provide administrative and other support to the investigations team, including maintaining file organization, tracking timelines and tasks, data entry, scheduling interviews and meetings, and overseeing document collection.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum completion of a Law Clerk diploma or certificate program from a recognized Ontario college or equivalent. Bachelor's degree or higher considered an asset.
  • 2+ years of relevant employment law experience or in a regulatory or investigations setting.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills; ability to manage and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to synthesize large quantities of information and identify relevant information and facts in an efficient manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail, nuance and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable and willingness to take on new tasks and assignments when required
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience supporting workplace investigations or working in labour/employment law is considered an asset.
  • Professional, diligent and ethical.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, document management systems, and CanLII. Proficiency in Clio and AI systems is considered an asset.
