Job summary

The University of Manitoba invites applications for a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Seminar Leader for PHIL 1200. This on-campus position supports small-group tutoring, assists with course materials, and reports to the tutor coordinator.

Applicants must be current students and demonstrate English proficiency and empathy in helping peers. Hours are 0–5 per week with a total of about 25 hours, paid at $21.82/hr for undergraduate students or $24.29/hr for graduate students, plus vacation pay.

Qualifications

  • Completion of academic studies and experience which have resulted in an expertise specifically appropriate to assisting in the instruction of the course(s) assigned.
  • An empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students.
  • Effective skills in the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Attends orientation, planning and coordinating meetings as scheduled for staff in the course.
  • May attend lectures and other sessions of instruction in the course.
  • Consults with the employment supervisor for direction on assigned responsibilities.
  • Prepares instructional material such as handouts, assignments, problem sets, tests and presents to students in tutorials, laboratories, or seminars.
  • Marks student work including assignments, tests and major projects; grading may be shared.
  • Maintains consultation times and provides additional assistance as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned, e.g. audio-visual material preparation, field trips.
