Job summary

The role requires strong Excel skills, potential VBA knowledge, and interest in audit, data, and technology risk. You will collaborate with clients and balance tasks from planning to execution during a 4-month term.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a relevant field such as quantitative disciplines, data science, artificial intelligence, business administration, MBA, or other related areas.
• Advanced Excel skills are required; knowledge of VBA is a plus.
• Programming experience in Python is considered a strong plus.

What you'll be doing

The Internal Audit Intern will be responsible for delivering core audit services and work as part of a multi-skilled audit team to conduct risk-focused audits of various business processes & operations. This individual will identify internal control weaknesses and advise clients of efficiency or effectiveness opportunities. Through day to day activities, the Internal Audit Intern will also actively demonstrate support for CIBC's purpose to help make client and employee ambitions a reality. The successful candidate will work with team members to plan and/or conduct risk-based audits, identifying potential control weaknesses that may prevent a business from meeting its objectives. They will take accountability and ownership of all assigned tasks from start to finish, collaborate directly with clients, identify and address client needs through building relationships, and actively participate in client discussions and meetings. The role also requires preparing concise, accurate documents, balancing project management with the occurrence of unanticipated issues, demonstrating flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks, and communicating potential conflicts to leadership.

Important information

• You must be currently enrolled in post-secondary education to be eligible for this role. However, you do not need to be in a registered Co-Op program.
• Duration of Work Term: 4 months (January-April).

• Commitment to Audit Quality and Continuous Improvement -Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames.
• Project Management - Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanations and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues.
• Analytical and Technical Capabilities - Strong analytical capabilities with an interest in designing and developing automation and analytical tools to support audit activities and business processes. Advanced Excel skills are required; knowledge of VBA is an asset. Programming experience in Python is considered a strong plus.
• Educational Background and Business Acumen - Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a relevant field such as quantitative disciplines, data science, artificial intelligence, business administration, MBA, or other related areas.
• Interest in Audit, Data and Technology Risk - Demonstrated interest in internal audit, data analytics, technology operations, security, resilience, and/or technology audits is an asset depending on team placement.
