Huawei Canada’s Noah’s Ark Lab in Markham is seeking a Researcher internship to advance NLP and large language models. You will propose novel ideas, design experiments, and collaborate with a team on end-to-end projects that push state-of-the-art in LLMs and related AI domains.

The role emphasizes rigorous research, publication in top NLP/ML venues, and translating findings into practical insights for product teams. Fluency in English is required for collaboration across offices.

Formación

• Currently pursuing a Ph.D. or Masters in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Deep understanding of NLP and LLM fundamentals with strong ML grounding.
• Expertise in modern LLM architectures, including transformer models and linear-attention models.
• Strong Python programming with PyTorch; experience in training/evaluating LLMs.
• Familiarity with diffusion models is an asset.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in a collaborative research environment.

Responsabilidades

About the job:

• Assist in proposing and exploring novel research ideas to improve the efficiency and scalability of large language models.
• Participate in applied research projects focused on enabling long-context LLMs, including work on efficient architectures, data curation, and post-training methods.
• Collaborate on end-to-end projects by designing and executing experiments, analyzing results, and presenting findings.
• Publish research in top-tier machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) conferences.
• Track advances across the LLM and AI ecosystem, translating new developments into actionable insights for the team.

About the ideal candidate:

• Currently pursuing a Ph.D. or Masters in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• A deep understanding of NLP and large language model (LLM) fundamentals and state-of-the-art methods, coupled with a strong theoretical grounding in machine learning.
• Expertise in modern LLM architectures, including transformer models (e.g., Llama, Qwen) and good knowledge in linear-attention models (e.g., GDN, Mamba, GLA).
• Strong programming skills in Python with expertise in PyTorch. Experience in training and evaluating LLMs.
• Familiarity with diffusion models is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a collaborative, research-oriented environment
