Job description

New Generation Design Wave (NGDW) is an innovative architectural design firm dedicated to reshaping communities through uniquely designed spaces that enhance human experiences. Our approach combines aesthetic excellence with functional design to transform everyday environments into thriving social, cultural, and economic hubs. NGDW prioritizes sustainability, community integration, and architectural innovation. Our expertise spans feasibility studies, advanced visualization, and comprehensive project management, supporting a seamless fusion of vision and delivery.

Position Overview

The Intern Architect/Architectural Designer supports the pre-design, schematic design, and design development phases of projects, from initial concept discussions through design development, presentation production, project coordination, and client interfacing. The role is a shared design resource across NGDW projects, with a focus on master planning, facade studies, visualization, and presentation-quality deliverables. The successful candidate will apply knowledge of architectural design, building materials, assemblies, visualization, and collaborative teamwork to deliver high-quality design outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work with the Head of Architecture and project leads to plan design deliverables and support project vision through pre-design, schematic design, and design development.
  • Develop project design concepts and investigate alternative development scenarios.
  • Prepare feasibility studies, including site-capacity analysis, massing options, development scenarios, and master planning concepts.
  • Explore building forms, orientation, site relationships, and urban context through massing, urban design, and site-planning studies.
  • Create facade studies and models, including elevation options, material palettes, architectural expression, articulation, and sample boards.
  • Produce facade options and supporting materials for municipal, client, investor, and stakeholder reviews.
  • Prepare design presentations, client presentation decks, public consultation materials, and presentation-quality graphics.
  • Create diagrams, project storytelling graphics, urban-context diagrams, aerial views, and conceptual-planning materials.
  • Produce architectural renderings and visualizations using Revit, Lumion, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and other approved design tools.
  • Develop schematic design models and drawings in Revit, including building massing, space planning, plans, elevations, and sections.
  • Prepare and review design materials supporting the Site Plan Approval process, including site plans, elevations, building sections, shadow studies, building statistics, and area plans.
  • Coordinate design intent with project delivery teams, consultants, and creative design resources to maintain consistency across drawings, presentations, marketing imagery, materials, and project narratives.
  • Participate in design reviews and construction site visits to understand how design intent, materials, and facade systems are translated into built work.
  • Maintain assigned design tasks and report progress using the designated project-management system.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position as required.
  • Degree or diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Environmental Design, Urban Design, or a related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience in architectural design, visualization, or design development.
  • Experience in the high-rise mixed-use residential sector is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit for architectural modelling, design development, and drawing production.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign for diagrams, layouts, presentation packages, and visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop for image editing, graphic composition, and presentation development.
  • Proficiency in Lumion or comparable architectural visualization software; experience with Enscape, Twinmotion, 3ds Max, or similar tools is an asset.
  • Experience with Rhino and Grasshopper for 3D modelling, parametric studies, facade exploration, and design iteration is preferred.
  • Strong graphics, presentation, 3D modelling, and rendering abilities; a portfolio demonstrating relevant work is required.
  • Understanding of architectural design, building materials, assemblies, and design documentation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively within a small, energetic, multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, respond to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and municipal approvals is an asset.
