Job summary

CIMA+ in Calgary is seeking an experienced Intermediate Transportation Planning Engineer to join our multidisciplinary mobility team. You will lead and contribute to projects shaping how communities move across Calgary, Alberta and Western Canada.

You will work with transportation planners, traffic engineers, designers and data specialists to deliver sustainable mobility solutions for public and private sector clients.

Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in transportation engineering.
  • Proven experience with City of Calgary and Alberta public agencies responsible for transportation, transit, and municipal infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian and Alberta transportation standards, TAC guidelines, provincial manuals, and municipal requirements.
  • Experience with Synchro, SimTraffic, and HCS is required.
  • Experience with GIS and design software (ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation) is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage client relationships and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support transportation planning studies including master plans, functional studies, impact assessments, and analyses.
  • Analyze multimodal data, travel demand, land use and development scenarios; develop practical solutions.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, memoranda, exhibits, and presentations.
  • Build relationships with municipal and private-sector clients; support proposals and business development.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the growth of the transportation practice.

CIMA+ is seeking an experienced Intermediate Transportation Planning Engineerto join our multidisciplinary mobility team in Calgary. You will lead and contribute to projects that shape how communities move throughout Calgary, Alberta, and Western Canada. Working alongside transportation planners, traffic engineers, designers, and data specialists, you will help deliver innovative, sustainable, and practical mobility solutions for both public and private sector clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery
    • Lead and support transportation planning studies including transportation master plans, functional planning studies, transportation impact assessments, geometric assessments, parking studies, safety reviews, and operational analyses.
    • Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, and technical delivery.
  • Technical Leadership
    • Analyze multimodal transportation data, travel demand, land use, and development scenarios.
    • Develop practical transportation solutions supported by engineering analysis.
    • Prepare and review technical reports, memoranda, exhibits, and presentations.
  • Client & Business Development
    • Build strong relationships with municipal and private-sector clients.
    • Support proposal preparation, interviews, and business development initiatives.
  • Leadership
    • Mentor junior staff through technical guidance, project delivery, and client development.

Ideal candidates should demonstrate a combination of the core qualifications outlined for this role and be eager to learn, adapt, and develop new skills as industry trends evolve.

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta or be able to apply for this status.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in transportation engineering, with a strong portfolio of project delivery and client engagement.
  • Proven experience working with the City of Calgary and other Alberta public agencies responsible for transportation, transit, and municipal infrastructure
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian and Alberta transportation standards, including TAC guidelines, provincial manuals, and municipal engineering requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Synchro, SimTraffic, and HCS is required.
  • Experience with traffic simulation, planning, GIS, and design software (e.g., Vissim, Aimsun, Visum, SIDRA, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation) is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with modern safety concepts and performance evaluation methods, including Vision Zero, the Safe Systems Approach, the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) predictive method, and surrogate safety analysis tools.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance the delivery of multiple projects with ambitious timelines while also performing as a key resource for various needs and issues that may arise
  • Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships, lead projects, and contribute to business development initiatives.
