Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. seeks a Vegetation and Wetland Ecologist to join our Calgary biophysical team, supporting multi-disciplinary projects for clients across Canada and delivering regulatory permitting, impact assessments, and habitat restoration.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years in environmental assessment, a Soil Science/Botany/Ecology/Environmental Sciences degree, and registration or eligibility as a P.Biol. or P.Ag., with GIS and report-writing strengths.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of environmental assessment experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Soil Science, Botany, Ecology, Biology, or Environmental Sciences.
  • Registered or eligible for P.Biol. or P.Ag. and an Authenticating Wetland Professional.
  • Strong vegetation ecology and wetland science knowledge.
  • Experience with Alberta Wetland Policy and wetland classifications.
  • Proficient in MS Office; GIS and data management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of vegetation community and wetland characterization, impact and effects assessments, mitigation management, and habitat reclamation.
  • Collaborate with professionals across disciplines to plan projects, implement designs, manage contractors, and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
  • Be the subject matter expert providing high-value technical services to develop relationships with clients.
  • Plan and execute field programs in local and remote sites.
  • Prepare and review technical reports.
  • Develop project proposals and budgets.
  • Participate in ESG, joint health and safety, or local social committee.
  • Travel throughout Canada.

As an Vegetation and Wetland Ecologist, we invite you to join our biophysical team to engage on a wide variety of multi-disciplinary projects for our long-term clients spanning many market sectors. Klohn Crippen Berger’s biophysical team works closely with our geoscientists and engineers to deliver environmental and regulatory support for projects throughout Canada.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Utilize your knowledge of vegetation community and wetland characterization, impact and effects assessments, mitigation management, and habitat reclamation to obtain regulatory permits and approvals
  • Collaborate with our talented professionals across multiple disciplines to plan projects, implement environmentally sustainable and innovative designs, manage contractors, and coordinate with regulatory agencies
  • Be the subject matter expert providing high-value technical services to develop positive relationships with our key clients, both internal and external to the organization

If you have 6 or more years of applicable experience conducting environmental assessments, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree specializing in Soil Science, Botany, Ecology, Biology or Environmental Sciences, a solid understanding of vegetation ecology and wetland science, and are registered or qualify to be registered as a P.Biol. or P.Ag. and an Authenticating Wetland Professional, we want to connect with you!

  • Understanding and experience with the Alberta Wetland Policy and wetland classifications
  • Proven taxonomic vegetation identification skills including wetland indicators, rare plants, native plants, and introduced and/or weed species
  • Knowledge and experience with various Ecological Land Classification (ELC) systems and spatial datasets such as the Alberta Vegetation Inventory
  • Ability to prepare and digitize ELC mapping and wetland boundaries by interpreting digital imagery and field data derived from detailed surveys
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian System of Soil Classification and AGRASID
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal regulatory legislation, guidelines, and regulations
  • Reclamation, restoration, and/or bioengineering experience
  • Experience and knowledge in various market sectors including water resources, mining, infrastructure, and transportation
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite® and capability with GIS and data management
  • Participation in industry Technical and Professional associations
