The Opportunity
This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, within the Point of Care Diagnostics division. Our portfolio includes infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics, and toxicology. We are seeking a Supervisor in Assembly Operations for our Ottawa cartridge manufacturing facility. As a key leader, you will supervise the day shift in a clean room environment, focusing on safety, quality, and productivity to drive positive business results.
Responsibilities
- Ensure staff compliance with health and safety policies and legislation.
- Develop a safety-first culture.
- Support and innovate safety metrics to reduce incidents.
- Execute build plans to meet targets, optimize capacity, and ensure quality.
- Translate company goals into departmental objectives and communicate effectively.
- Lead cross-functional teams to address yield issues.
- Manage staffing, capacity planning, equipment utilization, and material flow.
- Devote approximately 75% of work hours on-site in manufacturing areas.
- Implement productivity and process improvements.
- Develop and execute staff training plans.
- Clarify roles, promote teamwork, and monitor performance.
- Foster continuous improvement and a collaborative work environment.
- Coordinate with other departments to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Support HR policies, conduct performance reviews, and participate in staffing decisions.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and address non-conformances.
- Conduct employee performance discussions and support career development.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of products, processes, and equipment, with ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
- Proven planning, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to multitask, make quick decisions, and work under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Post-secondary education, preferably in Engineering or a technical field.
- Minimum five years of manufacturing or laboratory experience.
- Experience in medical device manufacturing and understanding of regulatory requirements is an asset.
- Rotating 4x4 day shifts from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.
