Job summary

WSP is seeking a Structural Engineer for its Resources team in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The role focuses on supporting industrial and mining facilities with safe, efficient, and resilient structures from concept through execution.

The ideal candidate holds a P.Eng. in Ontario with 6+ years of experience designing concrete and steel structures in Canadian facilities, using S-Frame, STAAD.Pro, or SAP2000. Occasional travel is required.

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario with mining/industrial design experience.
• 6+ years designing concrete/steel structures for Canadian facilities.
• Proficiency in Canadian Codes and Standards for safe, compliant designs.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Design structural systems for mining and industrial facilities.
• Deliver detailed engineering packages from concept to IFC deliverables.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, process, and geotechnical teams.
• Conduct site assessments and investigations for retrofit or rehabilitation.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, and specs for regulatory review.
• Provide design leadership and mentorship to junior staff.
• Engage with clients through site meetings and reviews to build trust.

As a Structural Engineer with WSP’s Resources team in Thunder Bay, you’ll support the delivery of industrial and mining facilities across Ontario and beyond. From new builds to rehabilitation projects, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and resilient structures that support Canada’s resource sector. Your work will contribute directly to the growth of WSP’s provincial practice and to impactful projects from concept through execution.

Your Impact

• Design structural systems for mining and industrial facilities that advance safety, reliability, and long‑term operational success.
• Deliver detailed engineering packages—from conceptual design through stamped IFC deliverables that enable clients to move swiftly from planning to execution.
• Coordinate and integrate design requirements with mechanical, electrical, process, and geotechnical teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
• Conduct structural assessments and site investigations to guide retrofit, remediation, or rehabilitation strategies.
• Prepare accurate technical reports, calculations, and construction specifications that support regulatory compliance and client decision‑making.
• Provide design leadership and guidance to junior engineers and designers, contributing to quality reviews and continuous improvement.
• Engage directly with clients through site meetings, field reviews, and collaborative problem‑solving that strengthens relationships and trust.
• Support cost‑efficient, technically robust solutions that reflect WSP’s commitment to innovation and excellence.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• You are a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario with specialized experience in structural engineering for heavy industrial mining environments.
• You bring 6+ years of hands‑on experience designing concrete and steel structures for Canadian industrial facilities with project experience in the Thunder Bay market.
• While this role is scoped at an intermediate level, we are also very open to considering senior‑level candidates whose experience and expertise align with the needs of our growing Resources practice.
• You excel in applying Canadian Codes and Standards, ensuring designs are compliant, resilient, and safe.
• You are proficient with structural analysis tools such as S‑Frame, STAAD.Pro, or SAP2000, using them to solve complex engineering challenges.
• You are comfortable performing field reviews, site investigations, and structural condition assessments in active industrial settings.
• You thrive in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments and carry a mindset of innovation, curiosity, and continuous learning.
• The candidate will be required to travel occasionally.

Compensation:

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT:$98,800–$130,800
• MB & ON:$90,100–$124,100
• NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC:$89,200–$118,500
