Job summary

WSP in Thunder Bay is seeking an Intermediate Structural Designer to support heavy industrial and mining projects within the Industrial and Resources group. You will draft, model, and coordinate designs from concept through construction in a collaborative EPCM environment.

Reporting to a Senior Engineer, you will develop steel, concrete, and masonry drawings, participate in site visits, and ensure compliance with Ontario and National Building Codes while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • College diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience in structural drafting and design in heavy industrial/mining environments.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT with 2D and 3D modelling.
  • Knowledge of Ontario and National Building Codes.
  • Willingness to perform site visits and field work.
  • Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Uphold WSP’s health and safety culture, applying Life Saving Rules on all sites.

WSP’s Energy, Resources and Industry (ERI) sector is seeking an Intermediate Structural Designer to support the continued growth of our Industrial and Resources group. Based in Thunder Bay, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to heavy industrial and mining projects, working alongside a close‑knit and collaborative team.

Reporting to a Senior Engineer / Team Lead, you will apply your structural drafting expertise from conceptual design through project completion, supporting new construction and rehabilitation projects for industrial, institutional, and government clients across Ontario.

Your Impact

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • College diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience in structural drafting and design, ideally within heavy industrial and/or mining environments.
  • While this role is scoped at an intermediate level, we are also very open to considering senior‑level candidates whose experience and expertise align with the needs of our growing Resources practice.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT, with demonstrated 2D and 3D modelling experience.
  • Solid understanding of steel structures and concrete foundations.
  • Experience working within large, multi‑disciplinary EPCM project environments.
  • Knowledge of Ontario and National Building Codes and relevant industry standards.
  • Willingness to perform field work and site visits as required.
  • A collaborative mindset and positive attitude suited to a small, close‑knit team environment.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $77,400 – $102,500

MB & ON: $70,600 – $97,200

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $69,900 – $92,900
