Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking an Intermediate Structural Designer in Thunder Bay, Ontario to support heavy industrial and mining projects within our Industrial and Resources group. You will contribute from concept through project completion on industrial and government clients across Ontario.

Reporting to a Senior Engineer, you will apply your drafting expertise, produce 3D models and 2D drawings, and collaborate with engineers to deliver coordinated design solutions on multidisciplinary EPCM

Qualifications

• College diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
• 6+ years of experience in structural drafting and design, ideally in heavy industrial/mining environments.
• Open to senior-level candidates whose experience aligns with our Resources practice.

Responsibilities

• Apply structural drafting and modelling from conceptual design through construction on industrial/mining projects.
• Produce high-quality 3D models and 2D drawings for planning, permitting, and construction.
• Develop drawings for steel, concrete, and masonry structures, including foundations and industrial facilities.
• Collaborate with engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver coordinated design solutions.
• Participate in site visits and field reviews; verify construction progress and gather technical information.
• Support material quantity take-offs for steel, concrete, excavation, and earthworks.
• Review structural steel and reinforcing steel shop drawings to ensure design intent.
• Uphold health and safety culture on all sites.

WSP’s Energy, Resources and Industry (ERI) sector is seeking an Intermediate Structural Designer to support the continued growth of our Industrial and Resources group. Based in Thunder Bay, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to heavy industrial and mining projects, working alongside a close‑knit and collaborative team.

Reporting to a Senior Engineer / Team Lead, you will apply your structural drafting expertise from conceptual design through project completion, supporting new construction and rehabilitation projects for industrial, institutional, and government clients across Ontario.

Your Impact

• Review structural steel and reinforcing steel shop drawings to ensure design intent is met.
• Uphold WSP’s health and safety culture, applying Life Saving Rules on all sites.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• College diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
• 6+ years of experience in structural drafting and design, ideally within heavy industrial and/or mining environments.
• While this role is scoped at an intermediate level, we are also very open to considering senior‑level candidates whose experience and expertise align with the needs of our growing Resources practice.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT, with demonstrated 2D and 3D modelling experience.
• Solid understanding of steel structures and concrete foundations.
• Experience working within large, multi‑disciplinary EPCM project environments.
• Knowledge of Ontario and National Building Codes and relevant industry standards.
• Willingness to perform field work and site visits as required.
• A collaborative mindset and positive attitude suited to a small, close‑knit team environment.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $77,400 – $102,500

MB & ON: $70,600 – $97,200

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $69,900 – $92,900
