Job summary

WSP’s Energy, Resources and Industry sector seeks an Intermediate Structural Designer to support heavy industrial and mining projects in Ontario. Based in Thunder Bay or Sudbury, you will draft from concept through construction and collaborate with engineers and multi-disciplinary teams.

You will produce 3D models and 2D drawings, review shop drawings, and participate in site visits while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• College diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
• 6+ years of experience in structural drafting and design, ideally in heavy industrial/mining environments.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT with 2D/3D modelling experience.
• Knowledge of Ontario and National Building Codes and industry standards.
• Willingness to perform field work and site visits.
• Collaborative mindset for a small, close-knit team environment.

Responsibilities

• Apply structural drafting and modelling expertise from conceptual design through construction completion on industrial and mining projects.
• Produce high-quality 3D models and 2D drawings to support planning, permitting, and construction.
• Develop drawings for steel, concrete, and masonry structures, including foundations and industrial facilities.
• Collaborate with engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver coordinated design solutions.
• Participate in site visits and field reviews, verifying construction progress and gathering technical information.
• Support material quantity take-offs for steel, concrete, excavation, and earthworks.
• Review structural steel and reinforcing steel shop drawings to ensure design intent is met.
• Uphold health and safety culture and Life Saving Rules on all sites.
