Job description

Company Description United Pacific Projects Ltd. (UPP) is focused on becoming an industry leader in Inline Inspection (ILI) technologies for pipelines. The organization is committed to developing next-generation ILI tools that deliver high-quality, highly accurate data while remaining easy to deploy in real-world conditions. Its solutions integrate multiple complementary data sets to ensure comprehensive pipeline information can be captured in a single pass. United Pacific Projects Ltd. emphasizes superior customer service and customizable solutions that meet the specific needs of pipeline operators and infrastructure stakeholders.

Role Description UPP is looking for an Intermediate Software Developer with a strong foundation in C#, .NET, and desktop application development to help evolve the core software platform used to analyze and interpret pipeline inline inspection data. The software plays a central role in technologies that support the safe operation of critical infrastructure, the long-term integrity of pipeline assets, and the protection of the environment.

This is a rare opportunity to work on a stateful engineering platform that sits at the center of the business. The software combines data analysis, visualization, machine learning, and engineering workflows into a desktop application used to investigate, interpret, and understand pipeline inspection data. The problem space extends beyond traditional analysis into the modelling and representation of physical assets, creating opportunities to tackle complex problems where the best solution is not always obvious.

The software supports day-to-day operational work within a highly specialized engineering domain and embodies years of evolving business requirements. The software must continually adapt to different inspection technologies, analytical approaches, business requirements, and client needs, rewarding those who can identify patterns, work with abstractions, and build solutions that evolve alongside the business. Developers who enjoy difficult problems, persistent investigation, and building an understanding of complex systems over time will find no shortage of opportunities to apply those skills here.

We are looking for curious, thoughtful developers who are genuinely interested in understanding the problems behind the software they build. You will work alongside software developers, analysts, machine learning specialists, and other subject matter experts to transform complex information into practical tools and insights used throughout the business. We value constructive debate, technical curiosity, and a willingness to challenge assumptions in pursuit of better solutions. If you enjoy understanding how systems work, exploring unfamiliar problem spaces, and helping shape the direction of the software you work on, you will find no shortage of interesting challenges here. In return, you will be given the context, trust, and opportunity to influence how the software evolves.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate closely with senior technical leadership, software developers, analysts, machine learning specialists, and other subject matter experts to understand problems, evaluate approaches, and deliver practical solutions.
  • Investigate software behavior, data processing, and analytical workflows to build an understanding of the systems, domain concepts, and business processes that drive the platform.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance software that supports the analysis, visualization, and interpretation of inline inspection data.
  • Design and implement new capabilities that expand the platform's analytical and business functionality.
  • Work within complex analytical workflows to support the continued evolution of the platform's capabilities.
  • Use abstraction, refactoring, and thoughtful software design to identify, extract, and develop reusable capabilities that support existing and future functionality.
  • Contribute to testing, validation, and documentation practices that improve reliability and confidence when evolving existing functionality.
  • Participate in technical discussions, design decisions, and collaborative problem solving, contributing ideas and constructively challenging assumptions.
  • Support research, development, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Education & Experience

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience developing and supporting production rich-client applications and complex software systems.
  • Experience understanding and evolving existing software platforms while delivering new functionality.
  • Experience using abstraction, refactoring, and thoughtful software design to develop reusable capabilities that support evolving business and technical needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to solve complex problems and deliver practical solutions.

Skillset

  • Strong experience with C# and .NET development.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles, SOLID practices, design patterns, abstraction, refactoring, and approaches for building maintainable, extensible, and reusable software systems.
  • Experience with WPF or similar modern rich-client UI frameworks.
  • Experience working with diverse data models, including relational, time-series, spatial, and other analytical datasets.
  • Attention to detail, persistence, and sound engineering judgment.
  • Computer-aided engineering development experience is beneficial.
  • Experience working with machine learning, advanced analytics, spatial modelling, or other computational approaches used to derive insight from complex data is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of pipeline inline inspection standards and technologies, including MFL, Caliper, IMU, or related systems is beneficial.
