Job summary

MPE a division of Englobe in Alberta is seeking an Intermediate/Senior Structural Engineer to design and manage complex structural projects within our team. You will work with clients and site personnel, producing drawings and specifications with clarity and accuracy.

The role requires P.Eng (APEGA), strong knowledge of NBC-AE, CSA codes, proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, and the ability to lead teams, mentor engineers-in-training, and manage multiple projects with tight timelines.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license with APEGA.
• Strong knowledge of structural design codes, standards, NBC-AE, CSA S16, CSA A23, CSA O86 and CSA A371.
• Proficient in structural systems, materials, and industry standards.
• Ability to lead teams through all project document production phases.
• Experience with Revit and AutoCAD for modelling and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with technologists to develop structural drawings/contract documents and specifications using Revit and CAD.
• Participate in client meetings to resolve design issues and liaise with design teams.
• Ensure coordination between drawings and specifications across disciplines.
• Review drawings from other disciplines and shop drawings as part of QA/QC.
• Conduct site reviews and inspect reinforcing steel, structural steel, or other elements.
• Manage multiple projects and deliverables independently.
• Produce structural reports and other written documents with clear technical language.
• Mentor engineers-in-training and delegate tasks as needed.

Description:

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and managing projects within MPE’s Structural team. The successful candidate will require an independent work ethic, the ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and site personnel, and a focus on effective time management.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with engineering technologists utilizing Revit and CAD to develop and produce structural drawings/contract documents, including specifications.
• Participate in client meetings actively and collaboratively to resolve any outstanding design considerations or issues and to liaise with the design team to ensure incorporation.
• Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Review structural drawings, drawings from other disciplines, and shop drawings as part of internal QA/QC and drawing/construction coordination and administration.
• Provide site reviews for both existing structures and projects under construction. Including inspection of reinforcing steel, structural steel or other structural elements.
• Ability to independently manage multiple projects and deliverables on an ongoing basis.
• Production of structural reports, letters or other written documents as necessary, emphasizing clear, concise technical language.
• Mentoring and review of the work of engineers-in-training and the ability to delegate work as necessary.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of industry-specific experience (Structural Engineering).
• Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng. seal from APEGA).
• Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes.
• Proficient knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
• Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software.
• Proficiency with drafting software and the ability to model and navigate in Revit and AutoCAD.
• Experience with applicable codes, including the NBC-AE, CSA S16, CSA A23, CSA O86 and CSA A371.
