Job summary

EXP Services Inc. is seeking an Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer for our London, ON hybrid team. You will work with the Buildings group to design and manage HVAC, plumbing and fire protection projects, coordinating with MEP/FP teams and clients to meet milestones.

You will lead design efforts, develop documents, mentor junior staff, and ensure QA/QC across multiple projects while applying risk management to minimize client exposure. The role requires P.Eng.

Qualifications

• Must hold a professional engineering, P.Eng. license with the PEO.
• 7+ years in project management/mechanical design.
• Strong leadership and good communication capabilities.
• Building design experience is a must.

Responsibilities

• Prepare/Review HVAC, plumbing and fire protection system calculations.
• Coordinate with other disciplines during SD and DD phases.
• Select and schedule HVAC, plumbing and fire protection equipment.
• Review submittals and RFIs, provide construction support.

Your work environment at EXP

Your work environment at EXP. In this role, you will be a part of the Buildings group based in London, ON and will work closely with the mechanical and electrical team members in the London office along with other offices in the region.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• CAD proficient with working CAD drawings. Proficiency with REVIT would be an asset.
• Prepare/Review calculations for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems load calculations.
• Thorough knowledge of relevant codes and standards.
• Create written specifications to reflect the project requirements.
• Coordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines and other consultants during SD and DD phases.
• Select and schedule HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems equipment.
• Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
• Coordinates with other disciplines (MEP/FP, Arch, Struct, etc.).
• Respond to RFI’s for the project and accurately review submittals.
• Provide construction support, including answering construction queries, review shop drawings, and providing construction change documentation.
• Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize exp’s and client’s exposure to problems.
• Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in work plan.
• Understand proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents – and deliver appropriate documentation.
• Work with PC, PM, and Clients to meet scheduled project milestones of multiple projects.
• Manage and deliver revisions (ASI’s, etc.) and sketches according to proper numbering convention.
• Edit and develop scope of work narratives (SD narrative, basis of design, etc.).
• Market Sector – Understands specific engineering requirements for applications within a market sector.
• Understand and properly provide existing exp details relevant to projects.
• Be able to direct and mentor Designer level staff on all of their responsibilities on a daily basis.
• Perform at a ‘responsible charge’ level of meeting exp’s design and quality levels.
• QA/QC reviews of all calculations by Designers, and provide guidance and mentoring.
• Determine content of drawings and specs for Designers in order to meet the scope of work.
• Develop and monitor work plans in conjunction with other PM’s.
• Review code related items with Designers and ensure compliance
• Manage work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours.
• Write studies and reports for systems on projects.
• Technical experience required includes:
• oHydronics systems (heating and chilled)
• oVariable & constant flow systems.
• oCV, VAV, and VVT air systems.
• oExhaust systems
• oDomestic water, sanitary and storm drainage systems
• oNatural gas piping systems
• oThorough understanding of psychometrics.
• oAdvanced equipment selection and analysis – chillers, boilers, air terminals, cooling towers, air valves, heap filters, DX equipment and water source heat pumps.
• oThorough understanding of humid climate design risks.
• oThorough understanding of total energy concepts.

What your experience looks like

• 7+ years in project management/ mechanical design experience.
• Must hold a professional engineering, P. Eng. license with the PEO.
• Must have strong leadership skills and good communication capabilities.
• Building design experience is a must
• Preferred experience includes educational, institutional, healthcare industry

The base salary range for this role is between $110K to $120K. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
