Job summary

EXP in Markham, ON is seeking a Plumbing/Medical Gas Designer to deliver design documents for plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection systems. You will perform complex calculations, coordinate with engineers and architects, and ensure code compliance on multiple projects.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of plumbing/medical gas design experience, strong CAD/Revit MEP skills, and excellent communication abilities to work within a deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or college diploma.
  • 5–10 years of plumbing/medical gas design experience.
  • Working knowledge of building code, CSA and NFPA standards.
  • AutoCAD and REVIT MEP experience required.
  • Ability to work in deadline-driven environment with multiple projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering tasks within the plumbing, medical gas & fire protection discipline and develop design documents in collaboration with senior staff.
  • Perform complex design calculations, sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignment / direction by Project Manager.
  • Perform coordination at a higher level by reviewing drawings supplied by team engineers and the architects to implement design modifications as necessary.
  • Research code issues as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Perform load calculations.
  • Draw piping distribution layout and size appropriately.
  • Prepare schedule and detail drawings and enter equipment specifications.
  • Understand, layout, and size the fundamental plumbing systems: storm, sanitary, vent, water, natural gas; fire protection and medical gas systems.
  • Select and coordinate the plumbing fixture schedule with client.
  • Understand the scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and be able to prepare and deliver drawings at the appropriate level.
  • Ability to manage and deliver revisions (SI’s, etc) and sketches.
  • Conduct field visits to project sites.
  • Utilize CAD, AutoCAD MEP, or Revit to perform engineering work.

What Your Experience Looks Like
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree/College Diploma
  • 5-10 years of previous plumbing/medical gas design experience

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The hourly range for this role is between $90k - $100k. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
