Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Municipal Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution
• Eligible for membership with EGM (P.Eng. or Eng.L.)
• 5-10 years of related work experience in planning, design and implementation of land development projects
• Familiarity with municipal analysis software (e.g., stormwater, wastewater, water modeling)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Working knowledge of relevant municipal guidance documents
• Experience in a consulting environment is an asset
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of design components on active land development projects
• Build strong working relationships with internal teams and clients
• Contribute to successful project delivery from design through construction
• Demonstrate increasing independence and technical leadership
• Confidently communicate technical concepts and solutions to clients and project stakeholders
• Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions
• Provide guidance and support to junior team members as your experience grows
• Support a team or act as lead designer on land development projects of all types and sizes
• Provide comprehensive municipal support to multiple areas for land development including stormwater management, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, linear infrastructure, servicing, flood protection, roadway geometry, parking layout, surface grading and active transportation
• Participate in the development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering designs and contract documents
• Provide technical support during construction, including contract administration and coordination of approvals and permits
• Work with and provide guidance to our junior staff
• Develop and maintain client relationships
• Participate in and promote KGS Group’s safety-first culture
• Assist with project coordination, including schedules, budgets, and stakeholder communication

The Role

We are looking for an Intermediate Municipal Engineer with a focus on Land Development to join our well-established Municipal Department in our Winnipeg office.

In this position, you will play a key role in land development projects from the proposal stage through design, construction and final delivery.

You will work on projects that build on your existing knowledge while expanding your experience through mentorship from senior staff. You will work collaboratively on projects within the municipal department as well as on multi-disciplinary projects with the various other departments at KGS Group. Depending on your personal career path, you will (under the leadership of our senior engineers) focus on design development or take on project management responsibilities. Opportunities will continue to be provided to expand your knowledge and participate in larger municipal infrastructure projects catered to your interests.

As part of your role in consulting, you will be responsible to ensure that our clients planning, and design objectives are met. On any given day, you’ll have the opportunity to interface directly with clients that include landowners, municipalities, First Nations, and architects. You will prepare designs, reports, studies, and contract documents. You will be part of a team that delivers innovative solutions for our clients. All of this will take place in our friendly, collaborative work environment where you will work together with other disciplines to get the job done.

This role provides a clear pathway toward senior technical leadership and/or project management, supported by mentorship and hands on project experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of technical design, collaboration, and growing responsibility on complex municipal projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Support a team or act as lead designer on land development projects of all types and sizes. Assignments could include low- to high-density residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, recreational, waterfront, and mixed-use developments in greenfield, brownfield and infill environments
• Provide comprehensive municipal support to multiple areas for land development including stormwater management, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, linear infrastructure, servicing, flood protection, roadway geometry, parking layout, surface grading and active transportation
• Participate in the development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering designs and contract documents
• Provide technical support during construction, including contract administration and coordination of approvals and permits
