Working with us means you'll be part of some of the most interesting projects across Canada, the U.S. and beyond. We believe we set our own boundaries by what we're willing to attempt and strive to push the limit on what's possible. That's the KGS way.

The Role

KGS Group is seeking an Intermediate Municipal Design Drafter to join our Municipal team in our Thunder Bay or Winnipeg office and support the delivery of municipal infrastructure and multidisciplinary projects from concept through construction.

In this role, you will play a key role in the design, modelling, and drafting of municipal infrastructure projects from concept development through detailed design, tender, construction, and final delivery.

Projects may include municipal infrastructure upgrades, water and wastewater systems, land drainage works, subdivision developments, infill developments, site servicing, and land development projects. You will build on your existing knowledge while expanding your experience through mentorship and guidance from senior staff. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical design, Civil 3D modelling, collaboration, and growing responsibility on complex municipal infrastructure projects.

This role provides a clear pathway toward senior design drafting responsibilities, supported by mentorship and hands on project experience.

Over Time In This Role, You Will
  • Take ownership of drafting and design components on active municipal projects
  • Build strong working relationships with internal teams, project managers, and technical leads
  • Contribute to successful project delivery from design through construction
  • Demonstrate increasing independence, quality control, and technical judgement
  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members as your experience grows
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and develop municipal design drawings, figures, details, profiles, cross-sections, and construction drawing packages for water, wastewater, land drainage, roadway, and land development projects
  • Support projects from proposal and preliminary design through tender, construction, and record drawing stages
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, technologists, designers, and other disciplines to coordinate project inputs and deliverables
  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop and maintain surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, grading models, quantity calculations, and related design documentation
  • Assist in the development and refinement of municipal infrastructure designs, including grading, servicing, drainage, roadway, and utility layouts
  • Interpret engineering requirements, municipal standards, servicing criteria, and design objectives and incorporate them into accurate Civil 3D models and construction drawings
  • Perform and check design calculations, quantity take-offs, and drawing information for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Manage project data, including drawing files, models, survey information, design calculations, standards, and reference materials
  • Review drawings and models for adherence to KGS Group, client, and municipal standards, with an emphasis on quality assurance and project schedules
  • Identify design conflicts, constructability concerns, and coordination issues and work collaboratively with project teams to develop practical solutions
  • Participate in the coordination of survey information, utility data, and multidisciplinary project requirements throughout the design process
  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior drafting staff while contributing to the continuous improvement of drafting standards, workflows, and best practices
