Job summary

COOEC Canada Company is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls engineer in Calgary to design and specify I&C systems for diverse oil and gas projects. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and support field activities from start-up through commissioning.

The role requires hands-on expertise with PLC/DCS design, DeltaV and SPIs, plus familiarity with electrical equipment like MCCs and VFDs. Strong communication and teamwork are essential in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in instrumentation & controls (I&C) design for oil & gas projects.
  • Proficiency with SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation) is required.
  • Experience with PLC and DCS system design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment and systems (MCCs, VFDs, EHT).
  • Experience with Fire & Gas (F&G) systems and field devices.
  • Knowledge of DeltaV DCS and CHARMS technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs, specifications, and documentation for instrumentation and control systems, focusing on DCS and PLC applications.
  • Prepare instrumentation and process control designs and specifications for various industrial processes.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with COOEC QA/QC requirements.

Job description

  • Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts within the instrumentation and controls discipline, while maintaining a working knowledge of related engineering fields.
  • Analyze and resolve a broad range of complex technical challenges with minimal supervision, developing effective and practical engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and contractors, and provide support for field activities, investigations, start-up, and commissioning efforts.
  • Work closely with Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers from multiple disciplines as an integral member of a collaborative project delivery team.
  • Develop designs, specifications, and technical documentation for instrumentation and control systems, with a strong focus on DCS and PLC-based applications.
  • Prepare instrumentation and process control system designs and specifications for a variety of industrial processes.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables and project documentation are accurate, complete, and compliant with COOEC quality assurance and quality control requirements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) design experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Proficiency with SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation) is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience in PLC and DCS system design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment and systems, including MCCs, VFDs, and EHT systems.
  • Experience with Fire & Gas (F&G) systems and associated field devices.
  • Working knowledge of DeltaV DCS and CHARMS technology.
  • Ability to interpret and work with instrumentation layouts, field drawings, and related engineering documentation.
  • Experience developing wiring diagrams and loop diagrams.
  • Field experience, including turnaround planning, package development, and turnaround execution support, is considered an asset.
  • Adhere to company procedures, engineering standards, and established industry best practices.
