Intermediate Bilingual Hydrotechnical Engineer

Who are we looking for?

GHD seeks an Intermediate Bilingual Hydrotechnical Engineer to join our Canada East team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in hydrology and hydraulics applied to hydroelectric facilities. The role can be based in Fredericton, NB or Bedford, NS. Experience with dams and the hydroelectric sector is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrological and hydraulic analyses to support the design of hydraulic structures and dams; contribute to dam design reviews; conduct dam break simulations and prepare flood maps.
• Collaborate with and supervise engineers-in-training in hydrological analysis and hydraulic design; support training and mentoring of junior team members.
• Conduct site visits and prepare statutory inspection reports; contribute to plans and specifications for rehabilitation and reconstruction of hydraulic infrastructure.
• Demonstrate inclusion and openness in relationships with colleagues and business partners; work effectively in multidisciplinary, collaborative environments.
• Help raise the profile of the hydrotechnical discipline with internal and external clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or another relevant discipline; a graduate degree in hydraulics is an asset.
• Professional engineering designation with Engineers Nova Scotia or Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB), or eligibility for registration.
• 3 to 8 years of relevant professional experience in the field.
• Strong command of French and English, both spoken and written; bilingualism is considered an asset.
• Good knowledge of applicable calculation methods including hydrological and hydraulic assessments, floodplain analysis, and river flow evaluation.
• Hands‑on experience with modelling software such as HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, ArcGIS, and Civ3D; familiarity with CADAM 3D and MIKE 21 is an asset.
• Project management experience appropriate for the intermediate level.
• Self‑motivation, initiative, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent teamwork skills.
• Availability for short regional travel, including occasional site visits.
• Regular interaction with internal and external clients across Eastern Canada, Canada, and globally.
