Job summary

Mid-Level Hydrotechnical Engineer position open to candidates located in Peterborough, Ontario, Halifax, Nova Scotia or Winnipeg, Manitoba. The role requires conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, modeling with HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS, and contributing to design of water resources infrastructure.

Travel to project sites and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams are expected as part of project execution and regulatory coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • PE licensure or plan to obtain licensure within one year.
  • 4–6 years of hydrotechnical or civil engineering experience.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.
  • Experience with open channel flow analysis and numerical modeling.
  • Proficiency with HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS modeling software.
  • Experience designing hydraulic structures and water resources infra.
  • Experience with PMP/PMF analyses and floodplain considerations.
  • Familiarity with dam safety projects and regulations.
  • Experience in fish passage engineering and related structures.
  • CFD modeling experience (FLOW-3D) is a plus.
  • Ability to work with regulators, biologists, and environmental scientists.
  • Eligible to work in Canada; capable of US authorization if required.

Job description

Job Title- Mid-Level Hydrotechnical Engineer
Location- This full-time position is open to candidates located in Peterborough, Ontario, Halifax, Nova Scotia or in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration or commitment to obtain licensure within one year
  • 4–6 years of experience in hydrotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field
  • Experience completing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and applying hydrology and hydraulics engineering principles
  • Experience with open channel flow analysis and numerical modeling
  • Proficiency with HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS modeling software
  • Experience designing hydraulic structures, dams, or water resources infrastructure
  • Experience performing hydrologic studies, including Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) and Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) analyses
  • Experience with floodplain mapping, dam breach studies, and consequence assessments
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience coordinating project work with other engineering disciplines
  • Authorization to work in Canada and ability to obtain authorization to work in the United States as required
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel
  • Experience with dam safety projects
  • Experience in fish passage engineering and fish passage structure design
  • Experience with CFD modeling software such as FLOW-3D
  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Association Guidelines, bulletins, and applicable provincial regulations
  • Experience with river ice studies
  • Experience with dam decommissioning, dam removal, stream restoration, or hydropower feasibility projects
  • Experience collaborating with regulators, biologists, and environmental scientists
  • Ability to obtain and maintain additional provincial engineering licenses as needed
