Job summary

WSP Canada is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer – Hydro & Dams to contribute to planning, design, rehabilitation, and safety of water infrastructure projects across Canada.

You will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, practical geotechnical solutions, support inspections and Dam Safety Reviews, and produce reports and calculations that meet project objectives and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada or eligible to obtain registration soon.
  • 5–8 years of geotechnical engineering experience, preferably dam/hydro/water resources.
  • Experience interpreting subsurface data and geotechnical analyses.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Association (CDA) guidelines and dam safety practices.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, calculations, specs, and construction support docs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and rehabilitation of embankment dams and related geotechnical infrastructure from planning through detailed design.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses and interpret site data to develop safe, practical solutions.
  • Participate in dam inspections, Dam Safety Reviews, and instrumentation assessments for risk mitigation.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and field investigations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet client and regulatory objectives.
  • Contribute to technical reporting, design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Engage in QA reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions to uphold standards.
  • Build client and stakeholder relationships to grow WSP's Hydro & Dams practice.

Your Impact
  • Support the design and rehabilitation of embankment dams, dykes, cofferdams, and related geotechnical infrastructure from planning through detailed design.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses and interpret site investigation data to develop safe, practical, and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Participate in dam inspections, Dam Safety Reviews, and assessments of geotechnical instrumentation to support risk identification and mitigation recommendations.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and field investigations while ensuring compliance with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet client, regulatory, and project objectives.
  • Contribute to technical reporting, specifications, design calculations, and drawing reviews that support successful project delivery.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions to maintain high engineering standards.
  • Build strong client and stakeholder relationships while contributing to the continued growth of WSP's Hydro & Dams practice.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible to obtain registration in the near term.
  • 5-8 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, preferably supporting dam, hydroelectric, water resource, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience performing geotechnical analyses and interpreting subsurface investigation and instrumentation data.
  • Working knowledge of dam safety practices, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and applicable Canadian Dam Association (CDA) guidelines.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and construction support documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A commitment to technical excellence, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $77,400 - $102,500

MB & ON: $70,600 - $97,200

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $69,900 - $92,900
