AtkinsRéalis in Mississauga, Ontario, is seeking an Intermediate Fuel Handling Engineer to design fuel handling systems for nuclear power plants. You will work in a fast-paced team, provide technical guidance, and interface with other disciplines in a matrix environment.

The ideal candidate has a mechanical engineering degree, 5+ years in machine/equipment design or fluid power, and is or eligible to be a Professional Engineer in Ontario.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in machine, automation, equipment and/or tooling design.
• Registered or eligible to be registered as Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• Solid understanding of mechanics of machine and materials; design fundamentals.
• Knowledge of fluid mechanics and process system control design.

Responsabilités

• Perform design work for fuel handling mechanical equipment and related systems.
• Co-ordinate large scale projects of moderate technical and commercial complexity.
• Prepare design documentation, specifications and test procedures.
• Provide technical guidance to drafting staff and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Conduct site visits to nuclear generating stations and suppliers.
• Assist with cost estimating, proposals, and engineering quotations.

Job Description

AtkinsRéalis is looking to hire a Intermediate Fuel Handling Engineer. This position requires experienced individuals who are self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision. The individuals will work in a fast-paced team environment performing engineering services for Nuclear Power Plants within a matrix organization.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work on fuel handling mechanical equipment and systems, and/or process related design on D2O, oil hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Coordinating large scale projects of moderate technical and commercial complexity.
• Prepare design documentation such as design requirements, design descriptions, design specifications, technical specifications, component specifications, test procedures and plans, commissioning procedures, registration design submissions packages, flow sheets, detail drawings, general arrangements and equipment layouts.
• Perform component sizing, flow network analysis and stress analysis of mechanical systems.
• Review design reports, analysis reports, calculations, documents and drawings in support of design verification.
• Perform complex technical calculations relevant to design such as heat load analysis, fluid mechanics, and calculations related to component integrity.
• Interface with other engineers disciplines to obtain data and resolve issues relevant to design.
• Conduct technical, conceptual and detailed design meetings in front of peers, clients and suppliers.
• Perform pre-order and post-order engineering support including review of client requirements, review of applicable documents and drawings, review of codes and standards, perform cost estimating, proposal preparation, preparing and review of engineering quotation requests, technical evaluations and resolving design deviations.
• Provide technical guidance to drafting staff as well as mentoring and oversight of junior engineers
• Conduct site visits at various nuclear generating stations and suppliers.
• Provide engineering support to quality surveillance, manufacturing, assembly and testing with non-conformances.
• Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, client and company procedures.
• Provide consultation and/or review and approval of engineering quotation request packages and purchase requisitions.
• Assist senior engineers and branch manager with daily engineering activities.

About You

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University with a minimum 5 years of experience in machine, automation, equipment and/or tooling design, or 5 years of experience in the fluid power, oil hydraulic control and/or water process control industry.
• Registered, or eligible to be registered, as Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
• Solid understanding of mechanics of machine, mechanics of materials, material selection and fundamentals of machine component design.
• Solid understanding of fluid mechanics and process system control design including open and closed loop oil hydraulic circuit design.

Additional, Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of pressure boundary work including pressure vessel design, analysis, code classification, code class boundary, non-destructive examination and design registration is an asset.
• Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section II, III, V, VIII and IX is an asset.
• Knowledge of general requirements for pressure-retaining systems and components in CANDU nuclear power plants CSA N285.0 code is an asset.
• Knowledge of boiler, pressure vessel, and pressure piping CSA B51 code is an asset.
• Knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing ASME Y14.5 standard is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Presentation skills and public speaking abilities is an asset.
• CAD experience in Solid Edge or Solid Works is an asset.
• Experience working collaboratively in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
• Must be capable of working effectively in stressful environment and of maintaining a good working relationship with peers.
• Must be capable to work under tight deadlines, on emergency situations and flexibility to travel when needed.
