Reporting to the Reactor Maintenance Technical Manager, the Mechanical Analyst / Engineer will support various projects within CANDU Field Services. This is a fully qualified working-level engineering role responsible for independently completing defined assignments and contributing to project delivery, equipment design, manufacturing, testing, installation, and field execution.

The employee will be required to obtain security clearance for Candu Energy Inc. facilities and customer sites. This activity typically requires extended time for someone who is not a citizen of Canada, so Canadian citizenship is an advantage.

Where required, the employee will be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker and trained to CANDU Energy's Radiation Protection program as a Group 3 worker, customer onboarding requirements, and project-specific practical training. Physical fitness and hands‑on experience with tools and equipment are assets.

The employee will work with general supervision and defined objectives. The details of the work will not normally be closely supervised, although technical guidance will be available for unusual features or non-routine issues.

Your role
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using engineering judgement to make minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed design engineering for mechanical equipment, tooling, and systems used in CANDU Field Services projects.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including design requirements, design descriptions, calculations, specifications, technical specifications, component specifications, test plans and procedures, commissioning procedures, flow sheets, drawings, general arrangements, equipment layouts, and technical reports.
  • Investigate design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, installation, and field execution difficulties, and develop practical recommendations within the defined assignment scope.
  • Review vendor drawings, calculations, procedures, technical submissions, manufacturing records, and other supplier documentation for compliance with technical and project requirements.
  • Support machine design, mechanical systems, process control interfaces, manufacturing, assembly, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Perform or support engineering assessments, process studies, material or equipment testing, cost estimates, and technical investigations.
  • Provide project engineering support for technical or commercial work of moderate scope, including coordination of assigned activities, interfaces, deliverables, schedules, and technical inputs.
  • Participate in technical, conceptual, detailed design, readiness, and problem-resolution meetings with peers, clients, suppliers, manufacturing personnel, and site teams.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to drafting personnel, junior engineering staff, and technical support employees assigned to common project work, without continuing supervisory responsibility.
  • Provide engineering support to quality surveillance, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, commissioning, and field execution, including assessment and disposition of non‑conformances.
  • Prepare, review, or approve engineering quotation request packages, purchase requisitions, and technical evaluations within delegated authority.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage assigned work and priorities, taking into account project interfaces, the activities of others, budget, schedule, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure completed work is technically accurate, feasible, and compliant with applicable codes, standards, regulations, client requirements, and company policies and procedures.
  • Travel to project sites, both domestic and international, to support CANDU Field Services projects, including customer outages and field assignments.
  • Perform other technical, administrative, analytical, review, or investigative activities as assigned.
About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. A current P.Eng. licence is an asset.
  • Three to five years of practical engineering experience, preferably supporting engineering services, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, maintenance, or field service projects.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment, tooling, machine design, equipment layouts, design documentation, manufacturing support, testing, installation, or troubleshooting.
  • Experience applying engineering codes, standards, quality assurance requirements, and controlled company procedures. Nuclear industry experience is an asset.
  • Experience reviewing vendor documentation and supporting procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, commissioning, or non-conformance activities.
  • CAD experience with Solid Edge or SolidWorks is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently on assignments with clear objectives and a limited number of variables, while seeking technical guidance when required.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage workload, coordinate interfaces, and meet budget and schedule commitments.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to junior engineering and technical support staff on common project work.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, written communication, verbal communication, and customer relationship skills.
