Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking an intermediate estimator to support innovative engineering projects in Canada. You will develop multidisciplinary estimates using engineering data and quantity take-offs, and organize estimates by cost codes while collaborating with cost controllers and project planners.

The ideal candidate has 5–12 years in consulting engineering, strong Excel skills, and advanced English and French to work with offices across Canada and internationally.

Qualifications

• College diploma or university degree.
• 5–12 years of relevant experience in consulting engineering.
• Experience with project estimates in mining and heavy industry sectors.
• Experience with cost estimation for conceptual, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
• Knowledge of cost estimation software.
• Proficient with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Advanced English to collaborate with other offices and clients.
• Advanced French to collaborate with Québec offices.

Responsibilities

• Develop multidisciplinary estimates using engineering data, quantity take-offs, and scope documentation.
• Organize estimates based on work breakdown structure and cost coding.
• Estimate hourly labour rates, productivity factors and indirect costs.
• Prepare assessments for allowances, markups and miscellaneous costs.
• Carry out material quantity take-offs.
• Participate in value analysis and trade-off studies.
• Work with cost controllers and project planners.
• Contribute to improving estimation methods, tools and procedures.
• Assess changes on site to original contracts when assigned.
• Prepare estimation execution plans and bases of estimate documents.

Type of position: Regular

We’re looking for a dynamic, innovative and creative intermediate estimator who’s comfortable working in the consulting engineering industry. You'll actively participate in meeting the growing demands of our clients. As a team member, you’ll be responsible for tracking changes and estimating direct and indirect costs for projects.

Your future role on our team

• Help develop multidisciplinary estimates using engineering data, material quantity take-offs and/or scope of work documentation
• Organize estimates based on the work breakdown structure and established cost coding
• Help calculate hourly labour rates, productivity factors and indirect costs
• Prepare assessments for allowances, markups and miscellaneous costs
• Carry out material quantity take-offs
• Participate in value analysis exercises and trade-off studies
• Work closely with cost controllers and project planners
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimation methods, tools and procedures
• When assigned to a site, assess any changes made by the client and/or subcontractor to original contracts
• Prepare estimation execution plans and basis of estimate documents

Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements

• College diploma or university degree
• From 5 to 12 years of relevant experience in the consulting engineering field or any other combination of relevant education and experience
• Experience with project estimates in the mining and/or heavy industry sectors
• Experience with cost estimation practices for conceptual, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
• Knowledge of cost estimation software
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
• Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English-speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects
• Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec
• Asset: knowledge of AACEI practices
• Asset: experience in international project estimation
• Asset: experience with construction and cost estimation methods across multiple disciplines
