Job summary

GWAL, a long-standing design engineering firm in Canada, invites an electrical design engineer to join under the supervision of a Senior Engineer. You will help determine project scopes, develop drawings, coordinate with clients and architects, and ensure compliance with codes and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (preferred).
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and construction methods.

Responsibilities

  • Liaising with clients and other consultants to determine project scope under Senior Engineer supervision.
  • Documenting and communicating project scope to in-house design teams.
  • Coordinating electrical requirements with mechanical engineers/designers.
  • Preparing drawings using CAD systems and ensuring schedule adherence.
  • Ensuring plans conform to codes, standards, and project scope.
  • Participating in design reviews and construction administration.
  • Managing multiple projects and monitoring costs against budget.
  • Reviewing project documentation for accuracy and completeness.

Role

In your new role with GWAL, you will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer and be accountable to:

  • Liaising with client & other consultants to determine project’s scope, under supervision of Senior Engineer/Designer.
  • Documenting and communicating project’s scope to in-house design team members.
  • Coordinating electrical requirements with senior mechanical Engineer/Designer.
  • Coordinating with client, architect, interior designer and other consultants.
  • Preparing drawings using office CAD system.
  • Respecting project schedule.
  • Ensuring plans and specifications conform to applicable codes, good engineering practice and project scope.
  • Participating in maintaining firm’s quality standard.
  • Managing/coordinating multiple projects.
  • Performing load calculations.
  • Preparing detailed design layout.
  • Reviewing project documentation.
  • Participating in design review meetings.
  • Construction administration and site review.
  • Obtaining stamp and signature from signing engineer.
  • Assisting senior to monitor and control in-house costs and compare to project budget.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (preferred).
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience.
  • Possession of Professional Engineering License required.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Experience working on moderately complex projects.
  • Electrical system design and construction methods.
  • Specification writing and cost estimation.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration.Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Leadership and mentorship capabilities.
  • Client relationship management.
  • Project management and strategic thinking.
  • Strong knowledge of: National & Ontario Building Codes, Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Ontario Fire Code, Energy standards (ASHRAE 90.1, MNECB) and NFPA, CSA, and IES standards.
