Job description

As an Intermediate Electrical Engineer in our Dartmouth/Moncton office, you will work independently on small and average-sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.

Key Responsibilities

Design-Oriented

• Prepare site plans, floor plans, diagrams, risers, schedules, and details to adequately describe areas of project scope.
• Engage in the development of electrical design through sketches, electronic models, and diagrams. Provide markups and design direction for junior engineers and designers.
• Evaluate, select, specify, and detail electrical, communications, and life-safety systems or products for a project and assure work is reviewed for overall technical accuracy.
• Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specification documents.
• Perform and oversee the development of calculations using company standard design tools and proprietary manufacturer software as required.
• Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners and contractors, sub‑contractors, and vendors.

Quality Assurance

• Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects. Adhere to Stantec’s internal quality control procedures.
• Collaborate in person or remotely with team members, other Stantec disciplines and clients to achieve project success, acting as a project team member, discipline lead or a project leader.

Construction Support

• Conduct field reviews of projects during construction to verify conformance with construction documents and provide letters of professional assurance to the applicable authorities having jurisdiction.
• Respond to contractor queries (typically via RFI/SI/CD process).
• Evaluate proposed products for compliance via shop drawing review.

Internal Coordination

• Provide input on multiple projects with overlapping demands and deliverables.

Capabilities and Credentials

Areas Of Knowledge

• Reasonable knowledge of and ability to implement major electrical-related standards (Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code of Canada, etc.).
• Experience in industrial/commercial/institutional electrical design including electrical service design, feeder sizing calculations, over‑current protection, load analysis, and fault calculation.
• Experience in the design of lighting systems (indoor and outdoor).
• Experience in the design of communications systems (primarily horizontal level).
• Experience in the design of life safety (fire alarm systems, exit and emergency lighting).

Personal Skills

• Must be self‑motivated, team oriented, efficient, and a good communicator. Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Be comfortable in a client‑facing role and in the field.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual (English and French) is a major asset.
• Understanding the importance of complying with Stantec's Employee Health and Safety (EH&S) program, with a focus on safety in the field.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel within the maritime provinces (typically day‑trips, some overnight travel).

Software Skills

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel primarily).
• Experience in Revit and/or AutoCAD would be a consideration.
• Experience in dedicated lighting design tools (AGI32 or others) would be a consideration.
• Comfort with electrical design tools (feeder sizing, conduit fills, generator sizing, etc.).

Education and Experience

An Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited university is required.
Eligibility for registration as a professional engineer in the local engineering professional association is required.
Minimum of 5 Years of applicable experience is required.
Experience in creating tender document packages, including detailed drawings and specifications, is required.

Work Location

Typical office environment includes working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
