Job description

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a full‑time intermediate level Electrical Technician/Technologist to join our Energy and Resources Team. The role involves providing project design support through the entire Energy and Resources operating unit across sectors such as Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution, Oil & Gas, Mining, and renewable energy/energy transition projects throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of an Engineer/Technologist, assist with engineering design activities for projects of various complexity and size, supporting design for buildings, underground electrical distribution systems, lighting, and wiring; complete tasks in a timely, thorough, and organized manner.
  • Perform thorough quality control (QA/QC) of models and sheet files for standards compliance, discipline coordination, and ensure that comments have been addressed by the responsible CAD Technician and others as required.
  • Ensure that all drafting work is completed accurately, on time, and within budget.
  • Review and check drafting work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards and codes.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to drafting personnel.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to ensure that all drafting work is coordinated with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors to ensure that all drafting work is completed to the required standards.
  • Ensure that all drafting work is properly documented and stored in accordance with project requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure that project deadlines are met.
  • Support the project team in the development of design documentation, plans, and reports.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, instrumentation, civil/structural, process piping, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Participate in hazardous classification and other process safety assessment, evaluation, and design sessions.
  • Assist in the development of Construction Work Packages (CWP’s).
  • Participate in site visits and field engineering work.
  • Apply appropriate codes, specifications, and standards (both legislated and client‑specific).
  • Understand and work within Stantec's project delivery and quality control guidelines.
  • Comply with Stantec's EH&S program, focusing on safety in the field; ensure all work is completed with safety as a paramount concern.
  • Assist with client‑specific document control and comply with client‑specific standards.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Registration as a CTech or CET is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn and expand horizons.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize tasks to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written), including effective communication in a remote work‑from‑home scenario.
  • Proficient in conversational French (oral and written).
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and take direction as required.
  • Technical proficiency, good understanding of engineering fundamentals and process improvement skills.
  • Initiative, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft 365 Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Requires strong understanding of AutoCAD (V2020 or newer) CAD design software and principles.
  • Keep up‑to‑date with industry trends and advancements in drafting software and technology.
  • Requires understanding of MicroStation design software and principles.
  • Experience with Adobe and/or Bluebeam is a requirement.
  • Requires understanding of SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and applicable Canadian Electrical Code, CSA codes and standards is considered an asset.
Education and Experience
  • The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience consulting field.
  • College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized school is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and design standards is preferred.
Compensation
  • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario: $63,300.00 – $88,600.00 Annually
