Job summary

Beacon Environmental Limited in Markham is seeking an Intermediate Ecologist (Terrestrial) to join a growing team of environmental professionals. The role blends field investigations, reporting, and project coordination.

You have 3–5 years of terrestrial ecology consulting, EL C certification, strong field skills, and a valid G licence. Hybrid work and ownership opportunities support your career growth.

You will guide teams, support clients, and contribute to innovative environmental solutions.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of consulting experience in terrestrial ecology.
  • Certified in Ecological Land Classification (ELC) with applied field experience.
  • Strong field skills, including investigations/inventories, monitoring, and habitat assessments.
  • Field experience with habitat management and/or habitat monitoring and wildlife surveys (amphibians, bats, birds).
  • Experience with provincial and federal environmental regulatory processes and Ontario natural heritage policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence and personal vehicle.

Our Intermediate Ecologists combine strong technical skill sets with project coordination and consulting experience to help guide teams and clients toward successful outcomes.

We are seeking an Intermediate Ecologist—a technical professional who thrives on managing complexity, contributing to environmental solutions, and supporting both field investigations and reporting deliverables. You are an emerging leader who enjoys mentoring, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of consulting experience in terrestrial ecology.
  • Certified in Ecological Land Classification (ELC) with applied field experience.[PY1]
  • Strong field skills, including investigations/inventories, monitoring, and habitat assessments.
  • Field experience with habitat management and/or habitat monitoring and wildlife surveys (e.g., amphibians, bats, birds), applying the Ecological Land Classification System, identifying most trees and flora common to southern and central Ontario;
  • Experience with provincial and federal environmental regulatory processes and Ontario natural heritage policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence and personal vehicle.

Additional Assets:

  • Experience with federal Impact Assessments and other provincial and federal environmental regulatory processes
  • Indigenous Rightsholder, key stakeholder, and public consultation experience.
  • Arborist Certification.
  • Ecological Land Classification (ELC) training.
  • Ontario Wetland Evaluation (OWES) certification;
  • Project Management Training.
  • Wildlife survey experience (e.g., amphibians, birds, vegetation).
