Your impact

As part of our team, you'll deliver complex infrastructure projects in municipal water and transportation markets. The Intermediate Ecologist position is based in our Toronto office with a hybrid work model, primarily working from home with 1-2 office visits per week, including fieldwork, client meetings, and agency interactions.

This role is ideal for a seasoned field technician looking to advance into office-based duties, lead and complete fieldwork, train staff, and manage projects independently while leading field teams remotely and on-site.

The main responsibilities include providing ecological expertise across infrastructure projects during various project phases, including environmental assessments, permitting, and construction support. Tasks include:

  • Environmental Impact Studies/Natural Heritage Evaluations
  • Species at Risk assessments and mitigation
  • Permitting under ESA and SARA
  • Fisheries assessment and electrofishing
  • Ecological Land Classification and arborist surveys
  • Wildlife surveys and environmental monitoring
  • Collaborating with project teams and stakeholders

What you'll need

  • Degree in ecology, biology, environmental science, or related field
  • 5-10 years of ecological project experience in Ontario, preferably related to infrastructure
  • Experience in report writing, permitting, and project management
  • Willingness to travel within Ontario for fieldwork and meetings
  • Strong data management, GIS/GPS skills, and team leadership abilities

Preferred certifications

  • ISA Arborist, TRAQ, ELC, OWES, and other relevant ecological certifications

Jacobs offers comprehensive health benefits, retirement plans, stock options, and a salary range of $76,900 - $116,270, depending on experience and location.
