Job summary

Aviva Canada Inc. seeks an intermediate Commercial Lines P&C Underwriter in Calgary. You will underwrite Core and Mid‑Market accounts, assess risks, and advise on terms, pricing, and referrals when outside authority.

You’ll build broker relationships and support renewals while monitoring market conditions and ensuring compliance. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of P&C underwriting, CIP preferred or in progress, and strong communication and problem‑solving skills.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of P&C underwriting experience
• Strong understanding of underwriting fundamentals, pricing and policy wording
• Ability to manage workload independently and apply guidelines consistently

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal Core & Mid‑Market P&C accounts within delegated authority
• Assess moderate to moderately complex risks and recommend terms, conditions, and pricing
• Prepare referrals for risks outside authority with clear recommendations

Aviva Canada Inc. has an exciting opportunity in our Small Medium and Enterprise (SME) commercial insurance business unit. Our Calgary branch is seeking a Commercial Lines P&C Underwriter at an intermediate level.

What you’ll do

• Underwrite new and renewal Core & Mid‑Market P&C accounts within delegated authority, ensuring profitable growth.
• Assess moderate to moderately complex risks and recommend terms, conditions, and pricing.
• Prepare referrals for risks outside authority with clear recommendations.
• Build and maintain broker relationships; participate in broker/insured meetings to support new business and renewals.
• Monitor market conditions and apply underwriting guidelines consistently.
• Maintain accurate documentation, portfolio quality, and compliance.
• Support junior staff through basic coaching when needed.

What you’ll bring

• 3+ years of P&C underwriting experience; CIP preferred or in progress.
• Strong understanding of underwriting fundamentals, pricing, and policy wording.
• Proficiency with underwriting systems, rating tools, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication, relationship‑building, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage workload independently and apply underwriting guidelines consistently.
