Job summary

IMP Aerospace & Defence in Halifax, Canada, seeks a Procurement Specialist to join the existing procurement team. You will source parts, materials, equipment and services, manage supplier relationships, and drive cost-effective purchasing in line with Lean and 8S practices.

The role requires experience in aerospace purchasing, strong MRP/ERP skills (JD Edwards), and the ability to obtain required government clearances.

Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace purchasing and supply chain roles.
  • Post-secondary education preferred with 3–5 years in aerospace.
  • Proficient in MRP/ERP systems and JD Edwards.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain required security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Source parts, materials, equipment and services from vendors.
  • Implement commodity strategy to meet cost, quality and delivery goals.
  • Prepare RFQs, negotiate pricing, and issue purchase orders.
  • Manage POs in JD Edwards and track supplier performance.
  • Collaborate with technical staff for purchases.
  • Promote Lean practices and continuous improvement.
  • Resolve discrepancies with inspections and QA.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the CMLU Material Manager, the successful candidate will integrate with the existing procurement team in providing timely and cost- effective procurement, including value added sourcing and ordering of parts, materials, equipment and services by applying and adhering to best supply chain practices.

  • Source parts, materials, equipment and services from established vendors as well as seek new vendors as required
  • Implement and execute commodity strategy to support cost, quality, supplier reduction, and delivery sourcing goals
  • Prepare and release requests for quote (RFQ), negotiate pricing with suppliers, and create purchase orders
  • Responsible for the management of purchase orders in the MRP system (JD Edwards)
  • Manage suppliers, including reporting and periodic supplier reviews to track and monitor progress, risks and constraints that may impact performance. Manage the risk and constraints in a proactive manner via work-around and/or recovery plans
  • Develop supplier relationships to ensure all parts & materials meet the requirements of internal and external customers
  • Continually benchmark, negotiate with and select those suppliers who can meet or exceed company requirements of best value for price, quality, and delivery
  • Action discrepant, defective or unacceptable products/services with
    Inspection, Receiving, and Quality Assurance departments, end users, vendors and others to determine the source and root cause of the problem and action corrective / preventative actions with suppliers as required
  • Action invoice discrepancies accurately and in a timely manner
  • Liaise with technical staff as needed for information related to purchases and/or suppliers
  • Recommend and implement cost reduction initiatives
  • Work within and promote Lean practices; participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 8S activities in your area.
What You Will Bring:
  • Well-organized, with the ability to track many concurrent priorities, and with a high level of detail and accuracy
  • Experience in aerospace purchasing would be an asset
  • Preference given to candidates with post-secondary education with 3 to 5 years’ experience in supply chain ideally in the aerospace and/or aviation industries; or same level of experience in a similar technical environment
  • Skill in using MRP system; knowledge of JD Edwards would be considered an asset
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills Emphasis on MS Office (including Teams) and use of MRP/ERP systems
  • Incumbents must be able to pass and maintain Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and Transport Canada security
    clearances. Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Government Security Clearances.
