Job summary

Worley is seeking an Intermediate Buyer to join our Calgary-based Supply Chain team. You will manage the procurement of materials, equipment and services to support project requirements, working with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure value and timely delivery.

You will lead supplier engagement, conduct commercial evaluations, and execute contracts while maintaining alignment with project schedules and company policies.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent with 5+ years procurement in a project-driven environment.
  • SCMP or progress toward designation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of procurement principles, supplier management, and contracting practices.

Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, negotiate, and procure materials, equipment, and services.
  • Identify and develop supplier relationships to ensure reliable sources.
  • Manage end-to-end procurement process including RFQs, bid evaluations, POs, supplier communication, expediting.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, construction to align procurement with schedules.
  • Monitor supplier performance and mitigate risks to protect timelines.
  • Analyze pricing and market trends to support value-driven decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, ethics, contracts, and industry requirements.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement.

Purpose

We are currently recruiting for an Intermediate Buyer to join our Supply Chain team in Calgary, Alberta. Our team combines industry expertise, innovation, and collaboration to deliver successful project outcomes for our customers worldwide.

As an Intermediate Buyer, you will be responsible for managing the procurement of materials, equipment, and services to support project and operational requirements. You will play a key role in supplier engagement, commercial evaluation, contract execution, and procurement strategy, ensuring value, quality, and timely delivery. This position is suited for a procurement professional who can independently manage a broad range of purchasing activities while effectively partnering with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

Responsibilities
  • Source, evaluate, negotiate, and procure materials, equipment, and services in alignment with project requirements, company procedures, and commercial objectives.
  • Identify, qualify, and develop supplier relationships to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality sources of supply.
  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including RFQs, bid evaluations, purchase order issuance, supplier communication, and expediting activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, construction, and other internal stakeholders to align procurement activities with project schedules and business priorities.
  • Monitor supplier performance, proactively identify risks, resolve procurement issues, and recommend effective solutions to maintain project execution timelines.
  • Analyze pricing, market conditions, and procurement trends to support purchasing decisions and deliver value-driven outcomes.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, contractual obligations, and applicable industry requirements.
  • Work independently on a diverse portfolio of procurement activities, exercising sound judgment and commercial acumen in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function.
What You Will Bring
  • Demonstrated experience managing procurement activities for engineered and non-engineered materials, equipment, and services within project-based environments.
  • Strong understanding of procurement best practices, supplier management, contract administration, and commercial negotiations.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers while influencing outcomes and driving collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, and procurement documentation.
  • Proficiency with procurement systems, ERP platforms, and related supply chain tools.
  • Experience supporting capital projects in the energy, industrial, infrastructure, chemicals, or related sectors is considered an asset.
Required Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
  • University degree, diploma, or equivalent combination of education and relevant procurement experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive procurement, sourcing, or purchasing experience in a project-driven environment.
  • Professional Supply Chain designation (SCMP) or progress toward designation is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement principles, supplier management, and commercial contracting practices.
