Job summary

PBN Construction is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager in Saskatoon to provide financial and operational support during a 14‑month maternity leave. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will oversee AP/AR and general accounting functions, ensuring timely, accurate financial information and compliance with policies.

You will lead busy payable processes, support audits, and maintain controls while coordinating with internal departments to ensure smooth information flow for the organization.

Qualifications

• CPA with 1-3 years’ experience; exposure to corporate services preferred.
• Strong knowledge of AP/AR and financial reporting processes.
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel; excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports with VP of Finance support.
• Assist in audit prep, financial statements, and compliance reporting.
• Ensure GST/PST remittances and filings are accurate.
• Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Lead accounts payable activities: coding, data entry, approvals, vendor communications, payments, reconciliations.

Job Description

Role : Interim Accounting Manager Location: Saskatoon Work Contract : Maternity Coverage Position – 14 months

The Role: Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller will provide financial and operational support to the Finance and Corporate Services teams during a 14-month maternity leave coverage period. This role will oversee and support key accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general corporate services, ensuring financial information is accurate, timely, and compliant with company policies and requirements. The Interim Accounting Manager will work closely with the VP of Finance and internal departments to ensure effective financial processes, reporting, and information flow across the organization. This position will also be heavily involved in the day-to-day accounts payable process and maintaining the daily workflow.

High level Summary of Duties

• Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management with support from the VP of Finance
• Support the VP of Finance with audit preparation, financial statements, and compliance reporting.
• Ensure accurate GST and PST remittances and other government filings.
• Maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures in line with company policies and industry standards.
• Take a lead/hands on role in accounts payable, including invoice coding, data entry, approvals, vendor communications, payment scheduling, reconciliations, and resolution of discrepancies.
• Ensure all payables are processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general administrative function with support from VP of Finance.
  

Skills

Required

• CPA with 1-3 years’ experience, prefer exposure to corporate construction
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• Ideally has some exposure to corporate services.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable/receivable and financial reporting processes.
• Previous accounting software experience, specifically Quickbooks Desktop would be considered an asset.
• Demonstrated experience managing staff and corporate functions would be appreciated.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
