Job summary

A leading health authority is seeking an Intensive Case Management Clinician who will work within an interdisciplinary team providing support for clients with substance use and mental health issues. The clinician will apply a harm reduction model, requiring strong interpersonal and organizational skills. To qualify, candidates need a degree in a health-related field and relevant experience in a community setting.

Qualifications

Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator or designate, the Intensive Case Management Clinician works within the organization's framework and standards, utilizing a rehabilitation/recovery harm reduction-focused model. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the clinician provides assessment, harm reduction strategies, intervention, treatment, outreach, and/or detoxification and recovery consultation and referral for clients experiencing substance use problems and their caregivers/families, as defined by the client. Travel may be required, and transportation arrangements must meet Island Health's operational requirements.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
  • Recognized post-basic education related to mental illness and/or substance use.
  • Two (2) years of recent experience supporting clients with substance use and mental health issues in a community setting.
  • Strong knowledge of harm reduction philosophy and practice, including HIV, HCV, and related issues.
  • Experience working with individuals with substance use and mental health concerns.
  • Experience engaging persons with severe substance use problems who do not readily engage in healthcare services.
  • Understanding of substance misuse assessments, treatment methodologies, intervention strategies, the change process, and community dynamics.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as Mental Health and Child Protection laws.
  • Knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their roles in community service delivery.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Valid BC Driver's License.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based software and operating related equipment.
  • Ability to foster good public relations.
